ISO Caddo info - 04/26/18 08:41 PM

The wife has wanted to see Caddo for some time now, heard the lake is in good shape so going to take her this weekend. I have a feeling it'll be 50/50 fishing/sightseeing. My question is about boat ramps, I was going to use the state park but it's closed right now. The only other ramp I've been to is Johnsons but don't really want to go there. I liked the idea of launching in the river and running to the lake (sightseeing part). How long of a run is it to the main lake from the 43 bridge and how much of it can you really run? Also, what other ramps would you recommend on the lake?

I think I remember it being about 20 minutes to Uncertain/Karnak line from the 43 bridge. It can all be run, just watch for oncoming traffic. It is a nice scenic ride, so take your time.

If your taking momma and she has never been, I'd say you are probably more like 60/40 or 70/30 sight seeing... Enjoy it.

I would launch at either johnsons (because you can start fishing as soon as you launch) or tuckers...they are on the lake side.. wont have to make that long run... but I dont know the salvania situation this year, havent been since last year.
But if your banking on sight seeing majority of the time, I would launch at 43 and hit C channel run it around to the bayou and hit governments ditch and then on to the main lake... that would 20-30 minutes.

My wife & I go each year. This is the one(and only) time I spend more time rideing around/sight seeing than actually fishing(though both can be great). We stay and put in at Shady Glade in Uncertain. I am real partial to the Uncertain Texas/upper lake area. Run from Uncertain up Government Ditch to Big Cypress Bayou. You can then run the several miles up to the state park and 43 bridge and many miles above that. Beautiful scenery but as mentioned I especially like the scenery around Uncertain. Make sure you stop while traveling the river and have some fried catfish and a beer at Big Pines Lodge. All this can be seen on a map but everything shows up on my Navionics card in my Humminbird also. Enjoy!

I agree with launching at shady glade, I was going to say that, but wanted to give you the times you asked for.

Here is my reason for saying stick with that area!
