When storing rods in your box what are the pros & cons of tubes vs rod sox vs nothing?

Broke several tips using nothing. Tubes limit capacity too badly, switched fo socks and it’s made life easier. Tip : order the sock about s foot shorter than the rod to keep baits from hooking them.

Rod socks for sure, or just take out your storage tubes. Then no worries and you can fit a lot more rods in there.

Rod socks are a must. The tubes are a pain in the rear. It was the second thing I did to my Skeeter. Remove the tubes. Now instead of 12 semi organized rods, I can get 18-20 easily. And the rod socks make removing and putting them back easy.

Rod socks, took out tubes.

Best rod socks in my opinion are these ones they stay straight and lay in my locker as I pull out my rods, the tips very seldom go thru them also..

I bought some name brand ones and they are thinner, roll back up when the rod is out(so tangled around rods) and the tips very often go thru them.

I cut the end off these and tape the end tight and round and dip in plasti dip.

Try these, they offer rod tip protection, NOT just organization.

First thing I always do when I get a boat is take out boat rod tubes. I use neoprene rod sleeves. I hate mesh type rod socks. Every hook snags them or an eyelet wears through

How do y'all suggest taking to tubes out of the boat? Mine are a pain and i wanted to take them out but didn't see a way to get them out.

What size boat is it? Mine is a 17.6' and it just wasn't made for the newer, longer rods being used today. They would get caught, way up in the bow. I had to make tubes to put in just so I didn't have to fight for 30 minutes getting them out.

I have a 20' and the eyes get caught in the tubes constantly. I didn't realize taking them out was an option but now that I've realized other people have done it I just need to figure out how to do it in mine.

I use socks, no tubes. Can fit the most rods with less tangle.

I want those tubes for rod support while traveling. Always sock up the rods before inserting in the tubes. Stacking rods one on top of the other without tubes is not my thing. I will remove the front tubes to cut the bottom panel off then replace; so I can lay 5 rods and reels flat on the floor which allows you to carry 5 more in the box.

This is very informative. I struggled with those tubes and removed them after reading this to give it a try. I put pipe insulation around the opening and bubble wrap on the rod box floor to protect the rods. I also use pipe insulation instead of rod socks around the rods.

WARNING: I found out the hard way that rod socks don't float at all. I was getting an rod out pull the sock off and the wind blew it off the deck and before I could reach down to get it it sank.

Rod socks all the way, I have an older and smaller boat, never had tubes and boat is too small. If you got more than one rod in your box you need socks or expect to pull them all out at the same time and go through them. I have cheap ones and the ends to poke through so when they do that my broke a$$ gets the duck tape out and back fishing.
