Baits you own but never throw

Baits you own but never throw - 04/20/18 02:30 PM
Just curious to see what baits y'all have bought thinking they will be great but have never ended up throwing. I bought a buzzbait about 12 years ago with a 12" wire that I watched Bill Dance throw on one his shows. Never ended up using it and I just sold it over the weekend with some other tackle I sold on Facebook.
Another for me would be swim jigs. I bought about 5 different ones and just end up throwing chatterbaits in those situations I was planning on

I have a lot of random dropshot baits that never get used, but would probably work pretty well. That's about it.

Re: Baits you own but never throw - 04/20/18 04:12 PM
Ive got a bunch...
Prop Baits, jigs, swim jigs, swimbaits, buzzbaits.
I've thrown jigs a lot and only have ever caught 3 fish on one and it was off a bed in the spawn. Chunked a buzzbait for days and never a bite. Caught a few on a swimbait but not much confidence in it.
It may just be that I am not very versatile. I tend to pitch T-rigs and throw crankbaits. I bet I get 95% of my bites on those two techniques.

A Rigs and 10 Xds for me! I have thrown the 10 XDs a couple times without a bite They pull so hard you don't need to catch a fish on them, they are fun enough to reel in by themselves

This is what I'm afraid of. I'm new to fishing outside of ponds and I just don't have confidence with the jig yet. They look cool with a fat trailer so I keep buying them.

It's crazy to see all the different things some people never throw. Some of these baits are go-to's for many of us!

Probably, I don't remember but that's around the time frame I bought them.
Most of then I don't fish with or at least not very often.
Might was well flush $$$ down the toilet.

Re: Baits you own but never throw - 04/20/18 09:13 PM
A-rig. I've got several and have caught fish on them, but during the time when they really shine I much prefer an underspin, scrounger head, or just a regular swimbait. It's not that I hate them or anything, it's just that they always get put aside for something more favorable.

Wow, I love throwing a buzzbait.
I have a lot of extra tackle that I don't use because the boat is already full but one bait that I have a bunch of but rarely throw is a hard jerk bait.

Those not catching on buzzbait blows my mind. They are awesome. Tri-wing over lily pads will catch big fish, especially during the hot summer days. Can't even comprehend not having one tied on. Big fish love it.

I think you may be thinking of Del Rio's Keith Combs who won the PAA tournament on Tawakoni a couple years ago, fishing docks.
Yes, I own half a dozen and no I've not thrown one.
I remember when the Lunker Lure first came out, way back in the 70's. They had field tested it on Toledo Bend and had sounded like a possible maybe but after buying two and looking at them I figured I would not be caught dead throwing something that stupid looking. Then next year the Texstar Bass Club here in Arlington was fishing Toledo Bend on a two day spring trip. The first day was overcast and we did pretty well on spinnerbaits. The second day was clear and hot. Nothing going on and about 10 I looked and saw the two I had bought the previous year. One was white, the other chartreuse. So for fun over on the Louisiana side across from Huxley Bay I started throwing it out. My partner turned the other way and kept fishing. I think he was annoyed that I took that loud thing out while he was seriously fishing.
You can guess what happened. Second or third cast, fish. Another couple casts, another fish. We put the trolling motor on high and started catching a limit which for our club back then was ten. They seemed to only want the white one so when I finished my limit I gave it to Ron and he caught a couple before we went back to the weigh in. Good times.

Those big old deep divers, They are pretty but a real chore to throw all day. My left wrist is full of arthritis so it hurts to thrown them much, but I have caught lotsa of fish and big fish on the A rig so that's what I throw. Not as much work for me. Nothing like hooking up on a heavy fish using 65# braid in deep water. It is a jolt that is pure excitement on the A rig.

Completely agree. Don’t even know why. Somewhere along the way all the other “creature baits” caused my lizards to disappeared from my arsenal. No reason cus they never stopped working.
