Lake Fork Report

Lake Fork Report - 03/19/18 06:25 PM

Lake Fork is right at full pool and still pretty muddy. The southern end is slightly clearer, but not very good for a sight fisherman. Most of the water that's warm enough for bedding bass is no more than a foot of visibility. The clearest water is still in the 50s.
I layed off guiding for the 30-day period in the hopes of sight-fishing for a fish over 24 inches during the mega-bass tournament. I fished Lake Welsh mostly (it was great this season). Monticello was muddy and 4 feet low. And Bob Sandlin looked pretty good, but was just a little early for prime sight-fishing.
I prefished for the tournament Thursday and Friday and didn't find anything over 6 pounds on a bed. I saw so many fish in 2 pound range that I figured it wasn't worth trying for unders. So I primarily fished creek channels with the warmer water. I caught several fish, but all my fish were slot fish except for a 15 incher and one on the line at 16 inches that I didn't want to risk getting a ticket. I did find and catch an 8 pounder right at the time the tournament was over. But it was too short and too late. I didn't win anything, but it was very enjoyable to be able to fish by myself without any distractions. I should have some good video from the event.
This is been a great year for sharelunkers. This month, there was a 15 pounder and two 13 pounders. Congratulations to my good friend Alex Finch on his sharelunker. His own bait (Finch Nasty thumper) was his ticket for a sharelunker and we won the guide tournament using his Vicktory jig, Thumper, and a red rattle trap. You can find his stuff at the Minnow Bucket on Lake Fork or at http://www.finchnastybaitco.com
It's now time for my sight-fishing season on Fork. I am booked through April, but have a few days left in early May for the person who wants to go sight fishing. I expect it won't be over nearly as early as it was last year.
May and June are my best times for night-fishing. I recommend booking early to get the best dates. If you would like to book a trip, you can see my schedule and book your trip online at http://www.bassfishing.org/go

I plan to start uploading (to Youtube) my 1 to 2 minute "quick clip" videos of my clients (hopefully you) catching fish on on a regular basis. Please click the video and subscribe to my channel to get notified when I put them up.

Good fishing and good luck. You can't catch them if you don't go.
