Fishing just not catching

Fishing just not catching - 03/12/18 02:12 PM

I don't know guys, all I see are peoples posts about how great Fork is fishing right now, including a 15, and 2 13's, but I've been out 2 Saturdays in a row, and I've only managed 6 fish total. 4 on a squarebill, 2 on baby brush hogs. I've been all over the East arm of the lake, seen temps from 55 to 62.. muddy to actually decent looking water to the South.. What am I doing wrong? In the areas I fish, I've seen lots of other boats, just not many being caught.. Is it not as good as everybody's talking about, am I in the wrong areas?, do I need to be part of a secret society to ever find out?

I sat on my deck in Big Mustang all weekend and watched probably 100 boats come through. I only saw two of them catch fish and they caught some good ones with one big slot about 9 lbs. Both of those boats were fishing VERY slow and working a 50-100 yard stretch back and forth for hours. Everyone else I saw was fishing waaaaay too fast and didn't catch a thing.

When I was there week before last we were catching fish on Flukes and Senkos in 2 ft of water or less. Fish it slow until the fish let you know how they want it. Some type of grass is helpful.when you find an area where you catch a couple fish, fish it really good several times. In these same areas you can catch a few on chatterbaits with a boot tail trailer or boot tail swimbait. Hope this helps.

Could be timing. This time of year, right place/wrong time is the answer to my woes. I know I am fishing the places that hold big fish, but just can’t get them to bite. I am told Fork is a “spot on the spot” kind of fishery, and some of the casts for the big fish have to be in an area the size of a dinner plate.

Misery loves company, so I am right there with you. Went yesterday for the first time in a couple of months. 5 bites, two unders in the boat. One of my misses was an apparent bed fish (picked up, swam it off, dropped it).

Mind you, I didn’t run around to much because of the wind, and wanting to be closer to the ramp. But overall running up and down wasn’t bad. Stayed dry except when idling across stump fields east-west.

What's Fouz said.

You're not fishing for 20 or more bites right now. Slow down and drag a c rig or a jig. You'll catch some good ones.

As for watching 100 boats?!!!!! Hell no. Couldn't stand to fun fish with that many boats.

What Fouz said. I was in the area those boys that caught the 13 last week were fishing and saw the 7 and 9 they caught also saw some other 7-9s caught and had a 6 myself. That day fish were scattered and people were happy they caught 6 so felt good with my 10 2lbers but was fishing for big fish. Key was working an area you knew had been or was holding fish throughly. Expect those fish to hit beds already or this week.
