Power poles? - 02/19/18 10:19 PM

I have an ultrex on my skeeter but dying to buy power poles are they worth the investment?

I can't imagine myself not having a boat without Power Poles. I have an Ultrex as well and still find plenty of use for my Power Poles, especially during the spawn.

I use my talon every trip! Even if not fishing shallow, i use it to park at dock while getting my truck. Use it in deep water sometimes to grab trees below and pause the boat in a drift.

I like to "sneak" into an area really quiet that I know I'm going to fish for a while and put my poles down. Fishing deeper where a little noise from the TM won't disrupt anything I'll use spot lock. Power poles are also worth the money if you launch/fish alone too.

I won’t ever own a boat without 2.

They're worth it if you're alone a bunch and fish shallow waters fairly regular. If all you fish are steep highland reservoirs then their utility is limited.

Then this posses the next question. Blades or pro2 ?

I love mine. I wish I had two but I don't have any space for a 2nd pump in my transom area.

Power Pole or Talon? Get the one you like the most in the longest length you can afford.

I have an aluminum Xpress. Last year I placed a (one) pole on my boat. I used it some but until about two weeks ago during a tournament My trolling motor quit. Fishing in Kickapoo creek on Palestine I could have gone home and sat on the couch and complain about it. But instead I used my mapping electronics to find the creek bends Put down my power pole and fished. I did not win but I did catch some fish, because of my power pole. I was able to fish all day ! So proud that I have a power pole on my boat.

15' talons with the ultrex. Depends on what you think is worth the investment. They will help you catch a few fish and make docking a little easier. Is that worth 4k to you? I finally bought my first set of anchors after never owning any. I think I will really like them, I did like setting out on a hump in 15' and not making any noise and just being able to fish

I had Dual blades on my old Skeeter. New zx250 came
With the new pro series 2. I cant Tell a difference in the two. The old style Pro series 2 were wobbly. The new style are made much better and I reallt Can’t tell a difference between my old blades and new pro series 2

Mike McFarland and I were discussing talons vs. power poles. He brought up a good point, he said in a reservoir like lake fork the clay bottom will stick to the bottom of the poles and the talons will retract with the mud. Where the talons having mud on them isn’t such a hassle. I’m looking to buy soon, Thoughts?

If you like shallow fishing they are definitely worth it.

I've had none, then a Triton with 1 talon and a Fortrex. Now, I have a ZX250 with Ultrex and added the additional pole. Where the Ultrex is the greatest thing since Raquel Welch, I am thrilled I have two poles. Makes all fishing so much easier for many reasons. I think you'll find you love having the Ultrex AND 2 poles so much, the cost will be considered an INVESTMENT and not a cost, immediately.

That's not true at all. Fork is actually a pretty solid bottom lake. Ive run both on Fork and had way more troubles out of the Talons! Both did fine as far as the bottom goes. The problem with the Talons was with a cross wind. When fully deployed, your boat will rotate. And the only way to retract the poles is trolling motor back to the position your boat was in in the first place. Power poles give you 2 45 degree angles that hold the boat way better in my opinion.
I personally will never own another boat without Power Pole Blades and an Ultrex. Must have's in my opinion.

OP - go fishing this weekend. Count how many times that you think you would deploy poles (regardless of brand). If you get much over 10 times, then you might put some serious thought into the purchase. If you only use them to launch and load, you could use that money on something else.
I agonized over the cost on my old boat and found reasons to use the money elsewhere for a long time. My new boat came with dual poles. I will NEVER own a boat without them again. I use them for loading/unloading, anchoring to fish a spot, slowing a drift through an area, retying baits, culling fish, the list goes on and on. This fall, my HS boys credit the poles to a 4th place finish due to being able to anchor in the wind and pick apart several brush piles without touching the trolling motor.

I like mine but want an ultrex instead. I don’t bed Fish a lot or use them except to keep the boat off the dock

Same here... I use my power poles for a bunch of things... launching and loading by yourself is simple with them.

Pulled the trigger and ordered 2 8ft blades. They should be here Friday and on the boat Saturday before I have to go a wedding.
