Gator or Gorilla Hulls

I saw recently someone posted about having a "Gator Hull" put on by Lake Fork Fiberglass. There is a similar hull available "Gorilla Hull" that Toledo Fiberglass (Toledo Bend) has been putting on boats for years. They claim 6,000 boats have their hull.

What are you thoughts on these hulls? I recently damaged my hull on Welsh and need some serious work done. I have thought about using one of these hulls but do not have much information on them. What do you think! They are actually less expensive that straight fiberglass repair. I'm concerned that it might void my lifetime warranty on the hull (BassCat) and/or be an inferior fix to a straight fiberglass repair. But I also like the idea I may never have a hull "problem" again. I fish stumped filled most of the time. I know there is a resale value question but at my age, this may be my last boat.

The Gorilla Hull is outstanding, and if I remember correctly, have a lifetime warranty? It adds some weight, but it's more stable in the rough stuff and gives stumps the finger for the most part.

Your BassCat hull warranty is a joke, they won’t fix blisters and if you have already damaged it what do you think they will warranty now? The gorilla hull cost more and seems to be a little better product than the gator, both are better than fiberglass.

I think you saw my post on Gator Hull. Where do you live? If you live in DFW or East Texas why drive all the way to Louisana, I think that's where Gorilla Hull is located? Gator Hull has a lifetime warranty too, quick turnaround and can most likely get it covered under your insurance. My buddy has had it on his Skeeter for over 6+ years without an issue, several others I talked to are happy with it too.

Not enough difference in either hull coating to be worth driving out of the way. Mike at Lake Fork Fiberglass does an excellent job of applying the Gator hull. It comes with a no questions asked lifetime warranty. It adds about 35lbs. to the boat. Some boats may see a loss of 1 to 2mph top speed...others may actually see an increase. I noticed no loss on my Gambler.
Your boat will actually launch and load easier.

I had the gorilla hull on a boat and had zero complaints. Boat still ran every bit as good. About the only adjustment you will have to make is it looks different. It doesn't look like fiberglass/gel. It looks like what it is - a coating of some sort. I would have zero hesitation of getting it installed.

I had the gator hull put on in Dec of 17, better handling and speed. Had blisters they grinded down, layered with fiberglass mat then installed coating. One week turnaround at the time. Was worth my 9 hr drive..

I don't know of a single company that will fix blisters as warranty. Also knocking a hole in a boat isn't warranty, that is why we pay for insurance.

So what does a manufacturer lifetime warranty cover.
It does not cover blisters, spiderwebbing, fading, damage from stumps. So I guess unless the fiberglass splits apart from natural causes a factory warranty on a boat is pretty worthless.

You would think if a guy in a fiberglass shop in east Texas could put on a bottom that he warranties no questions asked that a manufacturer could do the same.

Hull warranties from pretty much any manufacturer covers structural defects. Some will cover blisters as this is from improper layup. Fading is from owner neglect as in not keeping it cleaned and waxed. Let your car sit out covered in bird [censored] and not washed for a year and see if the manufacturer will cover it. Damage from tree stumps is like asking an auto manufacturer to warranty an accident.

So, if the lifetime warranties are offered from Toledo or LF Fiberglass, what happens 10 years from now if these companies are no longer in business or key personnel have changed?

That is the downside to any business that offers a lifetime warranty. It is a chance you take. I believe it's worth it from the side of the hull being more resilient to hull damage, and the downtime necessary for repairs.

When my Gator hull was installed, it was a 2 week wait period, plus a week to install. I hate to be w/o my boat again that long.

We have prob 6-8 boats in our club with gorilla hills. I am on my second basscat with it. No noticeable differences in the performance but great not having to worry about damaging hull. Unless the guys at Toledo fiberglass just decide to retire I think they will stay in business for a long by time. Warranty follows the boat so it really is lifetime. Actually my car has a lifetime paint warranty yours probably does also.
As far as boat manufacturers i am well aware of what their warranty entails. I just stated that in actuality a lifetime warranty is pretty worthless from a boat manufacturer

How far up do they do it?

To where the hull flares out all the way to the front, basically the first break point.

I'm really liking my Gator hull so far, Mike did a great job on my Skeeter. I did have to raise my motor 1/4 inch to get my speed back. I have had my boat out 5 times since I got mine put on & can not tell any differance in speed.

I have put a Gorilla Hull on 2 boats now. Helped me sell the first one. Love it.

Not trying to derail the thread but I'm curious, do any of y'all know if they will do with boats that have gouges or chips in the fiberglass? I've got an older 90s model Champion that has some cosmetic issues at the back of the hull.
