Falcon about ready - 01/25/18 03:39 AM

It’s about to go down, these fish are ready, out looking for
some more water today and caught a bunch of solid fish, had 2
over 10 that didn’t treat me nice at all.

Jimmy knows his stuff! If he says there ready and you can get down there, then I would be in route. I fished with him Christmas Eve. Had a blast and caught a bunch of fish. Nothing that big, but might of had a couple on. Like he said those fish aren’t nice. Once there hooked. Can’t wait to get back down there and fish with him again.

I lost one that weighed 9.34 lbs. I was spooled up with the digital line. grin

Re: Falcon about ready - 01/25/18 07:52 PM

Ya lost both of those. Got to see em up close while jumping
and throwing my hook unfortunately. I’ll have to try that line
with the built in scale though, lol. I’m reading 56-57, I’ve heard of some
warmer water but I haven’t come across it. Mouth to middle of coves.

I am ready to go but it looks like the weatherman is calling for another cool spell 8-10 days out. There are several warm, rainy days before then but the cool spell has me questioning my timing!

M2 .....
supposed to go next weekend, but the Thursday-Friday weather calls for a front to blow in with North winds ..... low 40s at night, low 60s for a high.
the Falcon LMB don't like those temps and that North wind. Even though it will be nice on Tuesday & Wednesday I'm thinking they will push back out & get lock jaw.
Hey James ...... what do you think ?

Re: Falcon about ready - 01/26/18 04:51 PM

Are they spawning? I noticed the tail on that one.

Re: Falcon about ready - 01/26/18 05:01 PM

Fish in Falcon start spawning in mid-December .......
BIG spawn is in Mid Feb depending on the weather as to deep or shallow

Re: Falcon about ready - 01/26/18 05:02 PM

When I was there this past Christmas seemed like they bunched up on those cold nasty days. And the bigger fish ate, also they didn’t move back out. Maybe James will chime in as I could be wrong.

Re: Falcon about ready - 01/26/18 05:26 PM

I don't know if they will be up there in the masses we all want them to be in the next week or so. But there is no doubt that some of them are up there now. But we could see a more spread out spawn than is normal.. If there is any such thing..

This cold weather has the fish confused.. Along with a bunch of us fishermen.

I keep talking about water getting to the low to mid sixties and staying there. But when it is going to happen.. Well your guess is as good as mine..

All I can say is that you cain't catch em at home!

Don't want to hi jack this thread but word on the street is some folks have been detained while fishing in coyote and Salinias. They were released unharmed but sounds like it could have gone south. Can anyone confirm or deny those reports?

Re: Falcon about ready - 01/27/18 02:59 AM

Probably a dumb question but do you feel that Bass Champs fishing the lake on 2/10 will have a negative impact on fishing in the following days?
I ask because I have read several posts that mentioned something like "just in time for Bass Champs".
I wondered if the crowd that day is an issue or if fishing is affected in the following days.

Re: Falcon about ready - 01/27/18 03:25 AM

No doubt you put 300 or so fisherman on falcon
they are gonna stick some fish, but I’ve gone out after
big tournaments and have still done really good. My customer
today canceled due to the flu so I was out solo again looking
around and had some good ones. This cooler water temp
isn't shutting them down that much. 8.40 big one for today.

Re: Falcon about ready - 01/27/18 04:43 AM

Jimmy , have you heard anything about incidents in Salinias.
Posted By: JimmysteedLFGS

Re: Falcon about ready - 01/27/18 05:34 AM

I’ve heard of some people being checked to see
If they had anything in their boat that wasn’t supposed
to be there, witnessed one boat kinda being singled out,but not
approached, while the rest of the boats in the area were left alone,
don’t know what was up with that but my customers were a bit uneasy
so we left. I have not heard of anyone being detained and I have
never been approached by anyone personally. I always carry some
cash on me and hope that if I did have anything come up, a franklin
could get me out of it.

Thanks for the info Jimmy.

Re: Falcon about ready - 01/27/18 02:42 PM

.... Bass Champs 1 day tournament has NEVER affected the fishing on Falcon ......
In fact you will have better fishing by listening to or reading reports about the type of baits the fish are keying on and whether the BIG ones are still deep or have moved to the bank.
AND if you believe or don't like the reports about the Salinias or Coyote .... don't go over there. There are plenty of places on the American side to fish Falcon. Just because you go to Falcon does not mean you have to buy a Mexican fl and go over there. I can fish Falcon for a week w/o having to go to the Mexico side....... even the days right after Bass Champs.

You can always tell exactly how much a bass weighs!
They all have scales on them!
Oh, different kind of scales.

Re: Falcon about ready - 01/27/18 03:34 PM

Other than what I have reported, I have not heard of anything, and only rumors in the Coyotes.. Nothing heard from my buddies fishing there.

Fish yesterday were a bit deeper, in the eight foot range. Some folks caught fish on traps and Red Eyes on flats.. Some good numbers.. Afternoon bite has been best. Last night was the warmest night we have had, only got down to 65.. Today should see some warmer water.. But still no sun today..

There was some funny business in the Salanias but it was taken care of. Nothing bad either. Haven't heard anything about Coyote.

You can read about it in James' report. But from what I gather, there was a Mexican fishing boat in the Salanias that was harassing boaters. They sent someone to check the boat out and they said he was just a "monitor". I'm not sure what that exactly means in their terms. I don't care if he's a monitor or not, if you see something fishy, crank up and leave.

With that being said, I've never ever had a single problem anywhere on that lake. I would take all of the "here-say" with a grain of salt. The only person I think that you should believe, is James. He knows what goes on down there.

Re: Falcon about ready - 01/28/18 02:59 AM

This am in heavy fog I was Trying to get back in Salinas and was graphing a point on the way in. A Mexican came by whistled and waved at me to follow him. He lead me back to almost where I needed To go and waved me off to the left when he had to go right.

He probably figured I was Almost running Into land.

I’m not worried in the least back there.

The over 3 lb fish are lethargic. Like catching a snag so far. Hope it changes soon.
