Monticello Boat Ramp

Monticello Boat Ramp - 01/24/18 01:04 PM

Be careful if using the ramp at Monticello. It appears some genius decided to change bunk boards out and throw all the screws out on the ramp. I picked up all I could see but who knows how many slid down the ramp into the water just waiting to put a hole in a trailer tire and ruin a fishing trip.

Freaking Idiots.

Was it the big tall ramp or the smaller one?

I am not from there and not sure. I drove down just to look around. It looks like a two lane ramp with a smaller one lane ramp beside it. The one lane I don't think is usable. I know you drive past a white building where they take money to launch.

Was it close to the pier?

Must have happened after Saturday because we went that day and saw a lake I've never seen before. Luminant had drawn it down about 3 feet as part of some work they are doing to retire the plant. I've never seen so many stumps.

I'd like to see that. Would bring back a lot of memories.

You may be giving them too much credit by calling them idiots. I'm sure they knew better, probably just a nasty slob who don't give a rat's fat one. I picture him taking up both lanes at the ramp while doing it and throwing fast food bags out onto I30 on his way home. I took that one and ran, but people like that really bother me.

+1. I may stop by there on my way home from Welsh this weekend, if only to drive over the bridge and check it out.

Pintail711 it was on the opposite side of the ramp from the pier.

Chris I was there around lunch time Sunday. I just moved to that area and have never been on that lake. I had Bass Champs on Rayburn Saturday and was just out exploring the area.

I picked up close to a dozen 1 1/2 to 2 inch lag screws and some other different wood screws. I took pictures but my limited computer skills are not helping me upload pictures.

Ken - Ron Peterson and I were fishing together. He had the EXACT same feeling all day. Kept talking about the old days when trees were still standing. Garcia's hump had only 4' of water on top of it. It also made us realize just how lucky some of the out of towners really were when they ran the middle of the lake North of the highway bridge many times this year.

Fishing was slow but the ones we caught were good ones. I hope it doesn't get much lower as it would kill a lot of great hydrilla in the creeks.

Well that really sucks. Hopefully there aren't too many more out there. I won't be able to get back out there for a few weeks but will definitely be on the look out.
