For The Guys That's Fished Comedero.. - 01/23/18 04:35 AM

So quick question for the guys thats been to Comedero through Ron Speed Adventures..

Does the guide fish with you?
Will that allow you to just take the boat or lease the boat?
Spending time with my son on the trip so just wondering what to expect...

From the videos I've been seeing, it looks like the guides does the driving and trolling motor and you're just in the back like a coangler?

The guides drive the boat to different spots. Every time I've been our guide has let us run the trolling motor.. These guys are not fishing guides. They know where the fish are but the reason they have the jobs is because the lake flooded their towns and homes. Just show them you can run the trolling motor and you will be fine.

You may not take the boat or lease the boat for the day. The guide does not fish, but takes you to his holes, spots where others have caught fish. His job is to get you their safely and to put you on fish. What you are seeing is the guide running the trolling motor from the front of the boat. He stays out of the way.

If you are so inclined you are welcome to run the trolling motor. But, not expected and most anglers/guests have the guide run the boat, run the trolling motor, get your lures unstuck, take the fish off the hook, and net your fish. Like any service, some guides are better than others. You are welcome to do all the things listed, except run the boat.

I'm taking 24 guys to Comedero next week and it is a great lake!

Salex,
How much tip, is the general rule for the boat guides?

It's been about 10 yrs since I went. We tipped $40 per day unless we had a phenomenal day. (any day with a 10+). Stay out of the river. Had a dicey experience. Guides let us run the trolling motor and did not fish.

$20 pp per day is the suggested minimum. Many tip $30 to $40 and many tip more if you catch a big one.

I think that depends on who your guide is. We too had a few words with some "locals" we ran into up there. Nothing really scary, no guns or anything like that, but I know just enough Spanish to follow that they were telling us to leave. So we left. Other guides from our group had fished up there everyday and nobody said a word to them. It may depend on who you know.

We did see a 1960's era ski boat go by with a big round bail of marijuana on the front deck. The guy driving was standing up in the driver's seat to see over it. He waived and was friendly. Lots of marijuana growing around the lake.

Wish I was going back tomorrow! Fishing is phenomenal!
