I used Ron Kelly at Lake Fork to mount this 14.19. Might try him.

Sorry I have one pic, right before dark. Also video of release. I'll try to upload, may need help doing, not tech savy!

Congratulations on the great fish!
This past year I had a 9.34 mounted by Bev's Fish Creations of Lake Fork. She did a great job, was very reasonable and a quick turn around.
You catch her on lake Fork?

Ron Kelly did my 10.68. Is he still doing taxidermy? I heard he had quit but that is only what I heard.

Not sure. his shop was on 515 not far from Star Mart. Didn't see it last time I was there. He was a little slow on mine but was covered up at the time. Saw a lot of his mounts and they were great.

Ron Kelly is probably the best in the biz. He did an 11.61 for me I caught in Lil Mustang in 1985. Still looks great on my office wall.

Ron is doing fine except he has the flu right now, he is doing a smallmouth, blue marlin, and a bull durado for me right now.

Re: New PB 13.1, looking for good replica mount - 01/16/18 07:11 PM

you can usually find something approximating your girth and length at garage sales. After a couple of months, you won't remember the difference in markings and after a couple of years you won't care. I caught a 12#r at Ray Bob in 2007 or 2008. I just let her go back. I looked at garage sales for a surrogate but didn't find one. I did find a mounted bullfrog though; he's playing an accordion. Every time I look at that frog I remember catching that fish ... and Guantanamera plays in my head.

Nice fish.

You can find Ron Kelly on FB. He is in Rockwall now and still one of the absolute best in the business!

I use Lake Fork Taxidermy. I personally think their paint jobs are more realistic than any.

No sharelunker?

Re: New PB 13.1, looking for good replica mount - 01/16/18 11:45 PM

My Sharelunker looks nothing like my actual fish. My replica is 24-25" and the real fish was 27". Maybe they do a better job with individual mounts

Not to high jack the thread. How long does it typically take for a mount to be completed and back to the customer?

Re: New PB 13.1, looking for good replica mount - 01/17/18 12:36 AM

James,

Congrats brother! and thank you for turning her back alive and healthy to stretch a string another day! It's people like you that give others a chance to experience the same joy as you did. Kudos

Also, as far as the others asking about Sharelunker, no such thing in Louisiana. BASSlife has a replica program for several lakes, but no system like Sharelunker.

Can't fool me, those are Samples Sales phone numbers. I'd be willing to take you to the exact spot where I caught my 14.19 cause you're such a nice guy and I know you could never find that spot again. roflmao

The one they did for the Ray Roberts record isn't remotely close in size or color.

I agree, replicas are just that and guys that do them have ready made models but do get them as close as possible. My mount was the actual fish and I would have had a replica too but the fish died in the aquarium at Lunker Lodge.

There are guys that are"fish painters" They buy ready made "replica blanks" and just paint them(some good, some bad). Then there are only a handful of guys who actually mold the fish, cast a replica from the mold and finish it out. That said there is a wide range of talent from guys that should keep their day job to extremely detailed artists that recreated every detail from a clients photos. I take great pride in the details, I also capture accurate measurements and profile as well.
If you take notice from my previous pictures very few of my fish look like each other. Why? Because the clients fish was the reference for each custom mount.Given the amount of bass I get every year from Texas, Enough people like my "style" To keep me extremely busy. I always say :Shop by sight not by price and/or convenience. You will be reminded of your decision every time you walk by your mount.

Ron Kelly has done 3 fish for me and they all look as good as the day I picked them up. He has flexible fins and paints that are unbelievable....
