2017 "Firsts"

2017 "Firsts" - 12/19/17 03:33 PM

Let's hear about some of your "firsts" for 2017. Any first double digit bass, strange or funny catches, tournament wins, for example?
One of mine is my first Texas smallie. (Texoma) I caught a few many years ago, on Rainy Lake, Ontario, but this was my first one in Texas.
And a decent one, at that. Just shy of 3.5 on the boga's. I know... boring year for me. grin

First time to get on a school and hammer 2-5lbers for about 10-15 minutes nonstop. Was awesome, can't wait for the next jaw dropper.. 20+ pound bag of keepers would do it!

Fished Falcon for the first time, and it exceeded my dreams and expectations.
It's a magical place, and can't wait to go again.

Not sure about firsts but this was probably my best year for big fish. Caught a bunch in the 5-8 pound range this year. Just a few:

Caught my new PB on a weightless fluke 7.89lbs. It was the first fluke fish I've caught over 5 lbs.
Bought a kayak and caught my first bass from it this summer
Finally learned the wacky rig and caught my first fish and several more on it this year

First year that I catalogued every bass, and photo'd at least one bass on every trip I took....I don't wanna jinx it, but I've kept the skunk outta the boat all year.

The mild winter and overall good weather this year made for the best bass fishing we've had in over 20 years. The numbers were absolutely over the top. Size was better too. Were still catching them as of Sunday. Even with 50's water they are hitting a slow rolled spinner bait hard enough to jerk the rod out of your hand.

Won my first tournament, it was a memorial tournament for a long time neighbor and tournament partner. I could feel him smiling as I walked up to the weighin.

A blown up on-board charger. No one seems to know why, the manufacturer or the boat repair folks (bass pro shops) how it could happen. They could t explain how my trolling motor head was destroyed either. Thank goodness for Boris Marine!
