I have an old one which is sort of a mini version with 4-5 trays. It works fine. All they are is a container with a fan which circulates air around the food in it. I make jerky with it a lot. I smoke it for a couple of hours after marinating in soy, wooster, and liquid smoke overnight. Then I put it on the dehydrator and season with Greek Seasoning until it is dry enough - several hours.

I asked the same question, maybe I'll get an answer.
