Trailer bearings help please.

I have had this boat and trailer now for a year and a half. I didn't know we have to do maintenance on the wheel bearings. I just did my 2nd oil and lower unit oil change Monday. First time by myself. My friend pointed out that I may need to replace the bearings to my trailer or at least pack it with grease. This is what my bearings look like. How do you go about taking this apart? I kind of have an idea but not 100% sure. I'm afraid if I take out that snap ring, the spring it's holding in will shoot out and I will be unable to put it back in. Ive searched youtube videos but anything that looks like what i got, with the grease fitting in the middle, they just pump new grease in it. There isn't a video on how they would take it apart to replace the bearings and seal. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thats a bearing buddy, it keeps your hub bearing pressurized with grease. It's pressed into the hub and to remove it you tap on the outer housing with a rubber or plastic mallet. No need to remove the snap ring, its there to hold the spring and plate in place. Once you remove the assembly you can clean it without taking it apart.

Oh. Is that what a bearing buddy is? I thought bearing buddy is a rubber cap that covers the snap ring and spring assembly, which I don't have. Is a cap neccesary?

You don't need a cap on them, but it may help keep them cleaner.

Behind that bearing buddy is a big castle nut with a cotter pin in it. You take the pin out, unscrew the nut and the whole tire/hub/bearnings and all will come off.

An easy check to see if they are ok is to jack the tire off the ground, spin the wheel as fast as you can by hand and put your head down by the hub and listen to it. If it is smooth and quiet its probably fine. If it has a growl or cyclical noise to it you probably need to give them a check and replace the bearings/races.

You have to pack the bearings before putting them in, youtube is your friend it will have all kinds of videos on this.

Thanks. I couldn't find any dissasembly videos with a bearing buddy on youtube, but sounds like it isn't much different than the videos I did find. I guess the snap ring just threw me off. I originally thought that you would have to take the snap ring off, then take the springs out if it wasn't going to shoot out. Then pull the cover with the grease fitting out to have access to the castle nut. Thanks to you guys for clearing that up and save me alot if trouble.
