Speedo pickup on Johnson fast strike

The previous owner hit something (not bad) but there is a pea sized dent in the lower unit right about on the pickup hole. The hole is now an almost enclosed oval. Can I drill out the face of that hole to reopen it?

Can you give me the size of the hole? Or pretty close?

Just eyeball it with a drill bit. Or get rid of speedo. I don't run a speedo on any of my boats anymore, GPS on graph is MUCH more accurate. Use that hole in dash for a radio or something, no sense to me having a gauge that usually isn't reading correctly anyways.
