Prop sizing. For 200 efi - 08/27/17 11:12 PM
I have a big fiberglass targa. Has 200 hp mercury efi. Running to high rpm. Has a 19p alum prop now which i know is not right. If you push motor wot it will run 7k rpm. What pitch prop should i get? It has no holeshot now either it plows until it gets on plane.

CWSANDERS: Is your motor a optimax and if so not telling you what to do but if you go to mercury outboards - engine .com you will find that the RPM goes from 5000- 5750, so you may want to check it out. good luck!

Very doubtful it's hitting 7k rpm's. Check your tach and for that boat the 19" prop is probably the correct size give or take an inch. And the reason I say very doubtful is because if it's an older efi motor the rev limiter will kick in around 6k. If it's an opti maybe a few rpms higher.

It is a efi. At idle in runs about 1200 rpm by my gauge. It is a 96 model.

You need to try a High Five prop. I would guess a 21 or 22 pitch. They work best in this type of application/

Should be idling at 700-800. Check your tach first. Sounds like its off.
