Mercury 200hp

Mercury 200hp - 08/16/15 12:36 AM

Have a question to ask the Mercury guys on here.

I just had my prop shaft replaced due to it being bent. Before I had it replaced I had lost hole shot, and top end. Now that it is back to straight again, still have horrible hole shot and top end.

Any suggestions?

Did you have the prop repaired. Bent prop shafts usually have bent props. Might want to contact Steve at SCP.

When I bent the shaft I had a different prop on, so prop is good.

You are saying your having the same performance issues after getting the prop shaft changed? Year model and is it efi , optimax or carbed.

It is a 200 EFI 2002 model.

First you need to check the simplest: check the compression, change all fuel lines, replace all fuel filters, change the manual fuel pump diaphragms, clean the fuel regulator screen, change or remove the anti-syphon valve and set the TPS. Get a good factory service manual.

a bent prop shaft won't effect the issues your having... unless it was bent so bad the prop
was rubbing the gear case.

i'd suspect there is still and issue with the prop.. or .. the heat, etc. is hurting the performance.

how many rpms at w.o.t. can you turn the prop right now?

Wot said about 6000, but I don't think that is working right. I was also blowing out right before I finally got on plane. The prop was not rubbing the gear case, before I had it replaced I was not blowing out.

the symptoms you have explained, indicates a bent blade or two on your prop.

Interesting......I would lose hole shot and top end? You have already repaired the prop from the bent shaft....

Really confused now.....lol.

The prop trying to blow out is not right. Does the replacement prop have vents? Have all of the ign. coils checked.

Is the new proper a different size/pitch than what you had before? Has it ever run correctly with prop you have on it now?

Yes it has run correctly. I am having a mechanic look at it.
