Oil leak...hose suspected

Oil leak...hose suspected - 06/20/15 01:50 PM

Took boat out to fish Saturday. Motor worked great just doing a little running. Later in the day after fishing, and the temp rising to 98, went to take off to ramp to leave. About halfway across the lake, the oil warning started intermittently beeping. Finally shut it off and used trolling motor the last 100 yards to ramp. Found oil on the inside of the cowling with a spot about 10" up from the bottom. That corresponded directly with the main oil line insert hose and the brass fitting there that connects that hose to the short his that goes directly to upper oil reservoir on the engine. I replaced the old zip ties on it with new fuel line zip ties thinking that might have been the problem. I have a few questions...1.) Is that brass piece supposed to be there or has the hose been spliced by previous owner? (I have had this boat less than a month). 2.) is that a high pressure hose? When I found the oil inside the cowling padding showing where it came from, it almost has to be this spot. I cut the fuel line zip tie off and the hose easily slid off the brass fitting. I cut an inch off the hose and then couldn't re-fit it on the brass fitting without using a hair dryer to hear the hose. I am thinking this might have fixed it as the fit was much tighter. Should I use metal hose clamps on this fitting and the one that goes into the lower motor instead of zip tie fuel clips? Thanks in advance for all replies.
