Bogging down. I have to use the choke?

Bogging down. I have to use the choke? - 05/28/15 10:13 PM

Was out on the lake today and the boat was running great. I had been running around and trolling for about an hour when all of a sudden the boat didn't want to idle and it died. It would start right back up but would die if I left it at idle or slightly above. When you gave it full throttle it would just bog down. If you put it in neutral it would rev up like normal. When I pulled the choke half to 3/4 of the way out, it ran like normal. Does this sound like a carb issue? Maybe some trash in the carb is all I can come up with.

It sounds like it's being starved on fuel. You can split the possibilities in half by feeding the motor from a hose in a can or bottle of gas. If it runs OK like that, you have a fuel delivery problem, clogged filter, collapsing fuel hose or squeeze bulb. If not, then you can start looking at the motor, internal fuel filter, dirty carbs, etc.
