Compression??? 1999 Mercury 225 hp efi ??what should it be?? - 10/26/10 07:14 PM

I am thinking about the Dave Ramsey's plan and looking at a boat with a 1999 Mercury 225 hp efi engine on it. What should the compression be on this motor?

should be around 100-110 make sure they are all with in 10%. If any cly. is higher than 15 to 20% need to have a leak down and see what the problem might be. We can check the motor out for you if needed.

I believe the guy with the boat said the compression is 92 lbs. Is this not good for a 1999 boat or does it not matter how old, still should be 10-110?

I bought a boat with that same motor a few years ago. It only had 87 hours on it when I bought it and it has been bullet proof. I always run marine stabil and Quickleen in every tank. In addition to compression, I would have someone check the computer. You can see the hours, hours in different RPM ranges, any alarms (oil, temp, etc.).

I have a '96 Merc 225 EFI. Checked the comp. earlier this year and all were 94-96 with about 380 hours. It is still a strong motor.

I have a 1999 225 efi, I have used my boat alot, probably more than most people and it still runs strong! It is starting to smoke a little more than it used to but still runs strong and keeps people off your butt!!!!!
