My dealer quoted over $400 for a Yamaha 20hr service which is nothing more than an oil/ filter, and lower unit lube. I learned how to do it pretty quick. You Tube is your friend.
Thats an easy one hour job that would cost u about 50 dollars in parts if u didnt have to replace the whole water pump kit. it would be easier and faster to do it yourself than to take out the time and drop it off and pick up your boat. I hear alot of people complain that they dont have the time to do this kind of stuff and i just dont get it.
That's pretty darn high... parts 100 bucks ish, hour of labor another 100 ish bucks and then maybe a little more for miscellaneous expense, that's a 225-250 dollar job max in my opinion.
Shop rates in my area are $115-135/hr. and they usually mark up parts 5-10% above MSRP so when they do you a favor and give you a 10% discount for being a good customer, they have still made full price.
