Abu Garcia C3 issues - Photos Added

After putting Boca bearings in two C3s and a C4, and cleaning them up, I still could not get them to spin freely. Thinking that I may have done something wrong in the reassembly, I sent them to Dads Ole Tackle in Conroe to be checked out and some more bearing related parts. I heard back from them today and the guy I spoke with(Eddie?) told me that after going through them, he couldn't get them to spin right either. He finally discovered that the spool tension cap on all three were the wrong ones. He said he has seen this before and that they are coming from the Abu plant wit these caps. He replaced them and said they all worked fine now. I asked him to send me the caps with the reels so I could see the difference. When I get them, I'll post a pic on here of the incorrect ones so everyone will know what's going on. Just wanted to let you guys know, if you are having problems getting an Abu to run right, that may be the cause.

Good to know! Thanks for sharing that info. I wonder what the difference is in the caps and why it causes it to not spin as well? It must move the washers for the spool shaft ends in closer and create more tension.

He said is was something about the cap putting too much tension on the washers even when backed off.
I'm curious also and I'm really curious as to why Abu would send them out like that.
I'll post a pic as soon as I get everything back. He was sending them out yesterday Priority Mail so I should have them in a day or so.

I think some caps have a bump on the inside and some don't. Abu should make it right for you.

Got them back today. The photo doesn't show it well, but the correct cap is flat while the one replaced is dome-like. There is also a stipple type pattern on the replacement which the old one does not have.
I'll look on my invoice to see if there is a part number for the caps, but zi don't know if it will be an Abu part number or an internal part number assigned by Dads Ole Tackle.

The replacement cap is also taller than the original. I looked at all of my Abus and every one of them has the domed cap.
