BPS Qaulifier

I have heard so many good reviews on this reel. I was wondering for a $100 reel what makes it so awesome. Is it easy to use and maintain. Anyone use them and do they last ????

It's actually a sold reel. Both centrifugal and magnetic brakes. A little on the heavy side compared to many reels today but it should last well. It shares many components with Lews and Abu reels.

I've used them for several years and they are durable, dependable and affordable reels.

Internet rumor is they come off the same line as the Abu Revo with lesser quality, but still metal, internals.

Depends on which Revo. I wouldn't say lesser quality but different materials.
One place to cut corners is in bearing count. Usually cut corners on the worm shaft and the knob bearings.
All of the Abus, Lews and PQs have three spool bearings, one mainshaft ball bearing, and the anti-reverse bearing. The lower end reels use brass gears and main shafts. As you go up in price they will add in bearings for the worm shaft and add bearings to the knobs. The main gear and mainshaft will be made from aluminum to save weight.
Seems to me they all use about the same SS bearings. The really high end reels use Magnesium frames. The lower end reels may use graphite frames.
Some have just a magnetic brake and some have both mag and centrifugal. Higher end reels may have just the centrifugal but with many more adjustments.
Some are Korean made some are Chinese made. The PQs are or were made in Korea. Low end Lews and ABUs are made in China.

They will be on par with Lew's and Abu's like others have mentioned and share many of the same internals parts. All of what Rick has said is correct. They are all VERY similar.

For the sale price they are very hard to beat thats for sure and they should last a while if you take care of them.

I have just finished going through cleaning and upgrading two of my buddy's Pro Qualifiers. According to a review (and my buddy), the only issue is that the drag can be a little "bumpy." I added some ABEC-7 bearings and some carbon-tex drag washers to both of the reels. He came back to me and told me that the bearings made a difference and that he could cast father than he did with the stock bearings. I'm waiting for him to reel in a fish so he can give me a report on the drag in action. They seem to be pretty solid reels and now that I know that you can retrofit most parts with Abu parts, if need be, it's a good reel to consider. My buddy also says that they come out on sale once in awhile, and that was when he snagged his up. Hope this helps.

Thanks im gonna wait for them to go on sale. Ive got several falcon rods and no baitcaster for them. Dont know anything about baitcasters. Wanna good starter though to learn on.

So I had a fishing report from my buddy this weekend. He's the guy that had the BPS qualifiers that I had upgraded. He already told me that he could cast a lot farther with the reels, but he hooked up into a striper this weekend. He said he let it run about three times so that he could get a good feel for the drag. I'm happy to report that he was happy and stated that the drag was very smooth. I had upgraded two of his BPS Qualifiers with with ABEC-7 bearings and a Carbon-tex washer set. It's not something that you need to do right away, but if you decide to grab one of these reels, it's nice to know that you can squeeze out a little more performance from these reels with a few upgrades.

Thats good to know ive been told the drag on this reel can be noisy when a fish is running. Not that it matters to me.

Noisy and "bumpy," from what my buddy told me. It won't keep an angler from landing a fish, but it's nice to have a smooth, quiet drag for the angler's personal preference.

Great reels and probably one of the best bang for your bucks reels out there. I still have about 8 from being on the pro staff back in the days. I like mine !

I have always been a Shimano Curado and Falcon rod man. I worked for Bass Pro Shop a few years ago which really gave me the opportunity to get to really check out a lot of products especially the Bass Pro brands. When they went on sale I decided I was going to get a couple of the Pro Qualifier reels on the Carbonlite rods which ran just about $ 99.00. Now after using them for about the last 6 months I can tell you I am really please with the performance of both the reels and the rods. They are really smooth and work great especially after I changed out the handles to the Power handles. The only issue I have is that I do a ton of flipping and for some reason the bar sits a little too far back for me. I flip with my left hand pretty quickly and I have to almost move my hand back a little so my Curado's work better for me for that application. But for my moving baits like Chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, swim jigs, swimbaits, crankbaits, topwaters etc. I can see me picking up a couple more when they go on sale again. I don't know of a better set up especially when you can end up getting it for the $ 100.00 range.
