Tatula owners beware!!

Tatula owners beware!! - 05/26/15 08:26 PM

So while I normally praise my tatulas and how great they are I did discover a problem after cleaning one of my own for the first time. The dreaded line grooves in the t-wing system! I had read about this issue online before buying any as most people seem to think it was either a fluke or a shimano rep trying to dog on daiwa. Either way I can state that this is a real thing and can happen to your reel! Just wanted all the tatula owners out there to be aware of it and to check yours for wear as well. This particular reel was a year and half old and this was it's first major cleaning. The part was $19 + shipping from Daiwa. The lady told me that they have seen a few with issue but that it wasn't a concern to them at this time. I got the best picture of it that I could. Still love these reels just hope this doesn't become an ongoing issue.

I think the Zillion's part is a direct fit and is made a little bit differently anyone else needs to replace theirs.

I checked the schematic and I believe you are right. The new Zillion T-wing has a different part number! Wish I would have thought of that sooner. Oh well. If these dont work out ill try one for a zillion.

Thanks for the 'heads up'! Have more than a few 'R's all.... will be watching for line wear.
God Bless

Is this wear caused from the use of braided line?

I know for a fact its not a widespread issue but in the future when you guys have an issue with Daiwa please shoot me a PM and I will try and help. They have excellent CS and will do what they need to do to make any manufacturing issue right.

Ill keep that in mind Mark. Ive already ordered 2 replacement guides for now. I asked the rep on the phone if they had seen alot of this issue and she said they had seen a few but not enough to cause concern so we will see.

Jody this reel has had 15lb Red Label Seaguar on it ONLY since I bought it. So this was cause by 15lb fluoro if you will. Still havent checked my other reel for wear. And I am also aware that people have these reels with no issues, and that is GREAT. Im simply putting this out there as a heads up to keep an eye on it is all.

Ive also noticed looking at the Zillion and a tatula HD that they have different desgined t-wings that look to have a different finish and a narrower "head" on the t-wing.

I have one with grooves on the levelwind and mono is all I ever fish. FWIW, I'm not even worried about replacing the guide yet as I've seen no issue with it affecting my line. It is annoying to have to have it in the back of my mind, but I still love the reels (particularly for the price online).

Yeah im still using mine with no issues as well. I even ran a q-tip across it when I had it off and it didnt grab or snag it at all so I figured it was good till I could get it replaced.

Got my t-wing's in the other day and they look to be an updated version that they are using on the new Zillion and Tatula HD's. We will see how these hold up I guess!
