15-20 year old 5500 looking to refurbish - 02/13/14 09:36 PM
How much would something like this cost?
Never has been taken apart and it means a lot to me because it was my grandpa's. I don't want to hand it over to just any body.
Based on what is sounds like I bet some bearings are worn out and the handle is bent/warped. Still works though.
Those reels are pretty simple man. Find you the schematic for it online and print it off. Order you a new handle, can probably find one on ebay if abu doesnt make em anymore. I just got through thoroughly cleaning a few of my Dad's 20-25 yr old Abu's. A 3500c, a Power 4, and a BASS 4600C. All of them feel like new now with just a good lceaning and replacing the bearings. One of his has a bent handle too and it makes the star drag tough to turn but it still works. Ordered my bearings from Dad'sOldTackle store on ebay. Southwestern parts website should have the schematic you need.

At my shop I charge $15.00 to clean and service. Let me know if I can help!
I have worked on Abu's for a little over 35 years.
