Spinning reel line

Spinning reel line - 05/14/18 02:23 AM

I have tried mono and floor and has too much memory. Tried 20 pound power pro braid and gets tangled around the rod end. This is on my wife's rod. Is there any other line I should try with better results? Wife is getting frustrated.

Mono with line conditioner.

Berkley Trilene XL is by far the best mono for spinning

I have used Trilene XL for years and like it and didn't have memory problems but rarely used over 12 pound test on mine. I always let it out behind the boat after spooling to let it untwist before using if I can. Braid is the only no twist option I know of.

No issues with braid here. Using Suffix 832 and Daiwa J-braid in 6,8,10, and 65. Also using yozuri 15lb with no issues. Make sure the spool is facing the right direction and is spooled under tension.

What size reel?

Right now I have 20# power pro on her Shimano Sahara 2500.

I am about to buy her a new really and it will probably be another 2500 size, but might go a 3000 size

I use super light braid. 10lb test but the size of 4lb. Tie a fluoro leader on and go to work. I get the occasional wrap around an eye but not enough to use straight mono or fluoro. I really appreciate the increased sensitivity from the braid. I've also noticed using bigger size reels, like a 3000, seem to manage the line a lot better.

A lot of guys like the Silver Thread and P-Line co-polymers. I use them some, but don't really have much of an issue myself when using the mono's. Line memory is one thing, and line twist is another. How you spool your line on a spinning reel has more effect on how much it twists.

10-20lb braid to a leader. It prevents the line wrapping around the tip.

Use whatever leader you want. I like co-poly.

Learn the FG Knot. Practice it a lot until it's easy.

Good line and Real Magic!! That stuff really works and I keep it in the boat at all times.

After many referrals, I've just started using McCoy's Mean Green. I think it's going to be a great choice for spinning gear.
