Is MEGA imaging worth it?

Is MEGA imaging worth it? - 07/08/17 09:06 PM

Right now I can get a Helix 12 SI Chirp for $1,500. The 12 SI MEGA is $2,500. Is it worth the extra $1,000?

It's more than just MEGA imaging.

The G2N models have CHIRP Sonar and CHIRP Imaging. The MEGA SI unit's transducer has a dedicated Down Imaging crystal in the transducer.

The first generation Helix 12 SI has a composite DI view created by blending the two SI pulses. It has CHIRP Sonar.

The MEGA is $200 more MSRP.

This is the first year for the MEGA SI units. This is the second year of the first generation H12 models. Typical production runs are two years for all brands.

It it worth it to you to have the lastest and greatest?

Cabelas has the 12 SI Chirp for $1,500. If it was only $200 I wouldn't think twice.

.

I just ordered a Helix 12 SI MEGA from Tackle Warehouse for $2125 shipped on Thursday.

Call them, I'm sure they will give you the same price.

I mulled this decision over for a few weeks, between the Helix 12 SI CHIRP or the Helix 12 SI MEGA.
Both are super units.

I decided in the end to go for it all as this may very likely be the last sonar I buy in my
fishing career. I am also somewhat of a gadget nut and like to play with them. My curiosity
about these new features played into it as well. No doubt both will get the job done. It's
what Wayne P. said, the MEGA is just a more refined unit. Both have the same Big Fat High Resolution
screen. That's a big part of the goodness right there. Whether I ever use anything other
than 455 kHz side scan remains to be seen. But it will be CHIRPed 455 kHZ. smile
