Would like to purchase something that works but is fairly simple to use and not over $500.00 Also for locating fish where is best mounting location? bg

You can get a new unit with Down Scan, Sonar and Mapping for that price in the Lowrance Hook series. You will have to spend more to also obtain Side Scan. The Elite-7 w/Total Scan sells is slightly more with Side, Down, Sonar an Mapping.

Get the biggest screen you can afford and mount it at the console. Downscan and side scan give their best image with a moving boat. You want 2D at the bow.

Striker 7sv has what you are wanting. And soooo easy to use. For SideVu, I would only recommend mounting on the transom. Others have it on the trolling motor but you need to be moving for it to be effective.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I'm leaning toward the Garmin. Do some of these have more than one transducer? Thanks. bg
