which unit - 01/13/17 02:53 PM

Hello, I am no electronics expert. I have a 22' fiberglass boat. Just catfish and occasional crappie. Would like yalls recommendations on a new or used unit. All I really want is something I can turn on and it shows me structure, bait, and fish. I will study and practice with unit and get good with it. Maybe something that I can add on side scan later if I feel I need it? Whats everyones old faithful unit or a good new unit that yall would recommend? Of course the larger the screen the better I suppose? Thanks in advance.

You'll find you are going to need side imaging to find them. Once you are there, you'll need DI. A SI unit will have both. If you are going to buy just one, don't cheap out, you'll regret it.

I'm wondering the same thing. What's the lowest price point to get a unit with SI/DI including transducer? Is there such a thing as entry level that has features?

Just getting back into fishing and boating after not doing much of either for a number of years. Just not sure how much I'll use the graph or the boat it's on.

My 2 cents worth is you will quickly realize once you start using a fish finder mounted on a boat for the first time that knowing the depth, water temp, bottom structure, fish locating abilities of the unit, GPS (nice to have), these are all good things to know on the water... A good 300 buck unit is a good basic starting point.

I have a Helix 5DI with low hours. It'll come with a transducer that has around 20hrs on it and all the cables. $200 w/ free shipping

You definitely do yourself a favor if you get one that has a card slot for additional mapping.

Entry level SideVu, ClearVu (downvu), GPS, great 2d, easy to use.
