Boatlanes Install On Hummingbird 998 - 09/17/16 09:52 PM

I just downloaded "Boatlanes" for Lake Fork, Toledo Bend, Sam Rayburn. I am using a MAC, transferred the file to an SD card, put the SD card in my Hummingbird 998 and nothing happened. I read the instructions which sounded easy enough but can't figure it out. I've read everything on the Boatlanes website also. I have a Navionics card in it also and put the SD card with boatlanes in the other slot.

I'm not getting the message that pops up on the Hummingbirds screen to save the tracks or whatever it says, didn't have the instructions in front of me right now. Thanks.

I also have some tracks for Lake Livingston that are GPX files. Do I need to convert them for the Hummingbird?

You didn't download the Humminbird version that has the data in the Matrix folder that the unit will recognize??????

If you didn't, you need Parallels on your MAC to use HumminbirdPC which will put the data in the Matrix folder. Unless there is some other way to get the data in a Matrix folder--don't know.

Individual GPX data will not load to your unit.

I have the Matrix folder and that's the only one I put on the SD card, correct? Boat was in the garage so I didn't get a good GPS signal. I started the unit up in simulation mode which I think the instructions stated if you're not getting a GPS signal. I'm not home right now but I believe it was simulation mode.

OK, the Matrix folder is what you should have.

First of all the Default Track setting is a faint grey dotted line. If you just load the data, that is what the lanes will look like. If you have the lanes they will be listed in your waypoint library. If you have the data loaded, you have to edit each one to a style and color you choose. SAVE each one as you make changes.

If you do a Restore Defaults for any purpose, the tracks will be set back to the faint grey dotted lines again and you will have to re-edit them.

If you did not do the correct procedure to load the data, you will not have them. The correct way is to fully start the unit up in Normal or Simulator, then put the memory card in one of the card readers and answer the pop-up message-- YES. Just takes a few seconds.
BUT----You can pre-set the Default lines to another style before you load the data. To do that edit the Saved Default Track settings--SAVE after making any changes.

After the data is loaded, you can view them with your maps using Simulator if you don't have a satellite lock or Normal if you do.

I pre set the default lines and I'm not getting the pop up message so I don't think the Hummingbird is recognizing the card. I'll try another card but it's one is brand new. I read where one of the units, don't believe it was Hummingbird, would recognize a card over 1GB. This is a large capacity card, maybe I'lll try another one. Thanks.

The largest memory card you can use is 32GB.

Card was the issue, thanks. As soon as I entered the card in to my Hummingbitd unit I got the pop up message. Took just a few seconds and it was done.

Now, I need to figure out how to convert a GPX file to a matrix for some other routes I have. I don't have a PC, only MAC's. Maybe GPS BABEL? Tried GPSBabel on my MAC and no luck.
