HDS 12 gen2 touch "pixelation" - 07/25/16 07:01 PM

Hi I'm having an issue with my 12" HDS gen2 touch. Any structure, fish or bait that I encounter is very "blocky" and "pixelated". In the photo below I'm positive that what I'm seeing are black bass but with this unit, it's impossible to tell. Any help figuring this one out will be greatly appreciated. If you zoom in to the photo, you can see the pixilation I'm referring to.

I would also look into your 2d transducer placement. i.e. is leaning/pitching forward or backwards more or leaning more to one side.

Looks like interference from the motor. Post a pic of where the transducer is mounted.

As a note, I mounted the 2d sonar higher on the transom to attempt to alleviate any interference between the 2d and the side scan on the other side. I have no problems whatsoever with the side scan. It performs flawlessly.

I notice you have a fiberglass boat. I would epoxy your transducer inside your hull. Get a puck style transducer for this

You can epoxy your skimmer transducer and it will work just fine.

Chirp will take care of that.

CHIRP technology (GEN3) does tend to make fish arches more pronounced and gives better detail and bottom separation . However, since your unit is a GEN2 , I would check the transducer angle as Jason suggested and also check your transducer type in the transducer installation menu. You can even change the settings to Generic 83/200 or Unknown and see if the images improve. I've done this with some of my own Lowrance units and found that the "recommended" settings may not always produce the best sonar detail. My findings are some of the software updates have changed the appearance of 2D sonar.

Thanks for all the information folks. I updated my chip and adjusted the angle of the 2D ducer and it seemed to have fixed everything.
