Need Minn Kota Part - 08/01/15 04:52 PM

Anyone have the black latch that goes on a 101 fortrex? It is the piece that the pull cable hooks onto. Has the two ears that are on the sides. One of the ears on mine broke off. Also how hard is it to get that piece out and replace? thanks.

That is called the latch bar. I have them in stock. Call us Monday and we'll get it headed your way.

John, Here's a question for you. I just purchased a Riptide and when I unpacked it, the skeg was offset approx 5-10 degrees. I had never seen that before so I called MK tech support and I think the girl I talked to must have thought that it was bent so she sent me to a warranty repair shop. The guy at the shop told me that was how MK was building them now so I put it in the truck and went home. I was still uncomfortable with all of this so I called MK again and this time I got a guy who seemed to know his stuff and he told me that the skeg was supposed to be aligned with the shaft. I asked him if that was something that I could correct and he instructed me to loosen the two screws a couple of turns and rioate the skeg housing until it was aligned correctly and then retighten the screws, which I did. I have to admit, I have never seem a TM with an offset skeg, but I have a buddy with a new Riptide and his is the same way.
What's your take on this.

Bob, The skeg is ok on mine. I just need the flat plastic piece with the ear on each side that locks it in place after it is let down in the fishing position. The cable actually attaches to this piece I need.

Bob, to answer your question, that is not the way MinnKota is building them now. The skeg is suppose to be in line with the shaft. Sometimes in shipping, although the cardboard supports hold the motor in place, the skeg will get pushed sideways. It also happens when hitting things in our East Texas lakes. As you were instructed, loosen the two bolts (5/16 head) a couple of turns, align the skeg, then retighen. Do not try to tap the skeg into place as this will pinch the oring seal.
Thanks

And that is what I did. I would not have tried to tap it into place because it was clear in the parts diagram that there was a rubber o-ring of some type and those things are easily damaged.
