Elite 5 DSI - 02/20/15 12:30 AM
What does everyone think about this Elite 5 DSI gander mountain has on sale for $299? Is this a good unit for the troller for crappie fishing? Should I get this or put my Lowrance HDS 5 gen 1 sonar only I have on the troller?

I use the 5dsi on my kayak. It's a good unit. If all your looking for is down scan. It does a great job.

Bowfisher I am curious about it to, thats agood price. I have the elite 5 w/o the mapping and have been pleased with it . Ive wondered if the map chip that comes with the unit is worth a dern or do you need to upgrade the chip, another $100 plus. Maybe somebody will respond that knows

Well I bought it. It seemed like a real good deal after researching the costs. We'll see how it works out!
I just bought the Lowrance elite 5 (HDI) GPS combo at academy for $299 originally ($499) They dropped the price just because of the new chirp units coming in. I'm going to wire it up on my kayak this week! Great deal!

Question-I'm about to buy a elite 5 or elite 5x.
I mainly fish brush piles for crappie from a pontoon.
Which would be better suited ?

Can anyone tell me if the map chip is any good or do you need to upgrade? My budget is real tight right now . Putting my last kiddo thru college and dont need to drop big bucks right now I know you get what you pay for. Thanks for any help.
I use the navionics app on my iPhone. Shows your boat on the lake, you can add way points, and very detailed topo map. Free trial then only 10$ to buy.

I have two Elite 7's on my Skeeter. I do not have any problem with the Lowrance map cards and have no plans to upgrade. I fish several lakes here in East Texas and I have found all to have sufficient details (contours, creek channels, etc.)....
