humminbird 1198, horrible graphics

My graph display looks real "grainy" with vertical lines running about half the depth on di and on the left side on si, and the 2d color is horrible, it's an 1198, I have a 958 up front linked. It's only GPS and 2d color and reads really clear. Just wondering if anybody know how to clear this up. Connections all seem good, transducer placement was done at ship's marine (I assume they know what they're doin)

I've seen that statement before.

I have two 1198c SI units and mine work great since I installed them.

I also have two 1198s and they work great .I do not have mine linked .double ck installation anyone can make a honest mistake

Typically if an installer is not familiar with the imaging technology they don't have a clue how to install it correctly.

I have seen pictures of imaging tranducers installed sideways, on a 45 degree angle on the corner of the hull and on a jackplate, and upside down. They were done by boat dealers.
An installation is only as good as the person that does it.

When I did the latest update to my 1197 so i could link to my 998 and 798 the 2d sonar is horrible now, very pixelated.

This has been a long long time that I've been wondering this, left the forum for a while and am still wondering. I think this is the prob??

That is proof of installation ignorance when it comes to the imaging technology.

Where you get one of them fancy little gizmos?

Transducer Shield and Saver.

CALL them and state your application--boat and jackplate, they will make sure you get the right parts.

Got to get me one of them little gizmos , have one for the front but never thought about the back .
