Does anyone run or familiar with this setup? Can a external lowrance transducer be ran through the groove just like the hummingbird transducer? I've been told that a lowrance cable is thicker than a birds but I can't find abything online to back that up.

Too thick to run through the slot. They make adapters that allow you to run the transducer external on electric steer trolling motors such as the terrova or ulterra.

Precision sonar makes one. Its called the cable guard.

I afraid of this setup getting caught between limbs, brush etc. Does anyone have experience running with the cable guard in thick cover?

I ran Lowrance with Terrova for six years before recently installing Motorguide Xi5. Below is the setup I made. There are pictures, maybe videos of the same somewhere on the www. I probably had about three instances in these six years where I had to adjust the cable for a snag. I crappie fish and get into all sorts of timber and stuff. I didn't worry about it.
