HDS Gen 2 Touch and structure scan

HDS Gen 2 Touch and structure scan - 12/18/17 01:00 AM

The left side of my readings are darker. I know that mostly indicates transducer placement, but I just dont think there is anything obstructing it. Ill attach some pictures I took tonight of the boat on the trailer. They arent the best and maybe I can get some more tomorrow with more light. I did notice that if I was turning to the right in a circle, when the motor was turned at a certain point, the readings would lighten up a little, but driving straight...the right side was nice and bright and the left wasnt.

I have a little wiggle room to lower it if you guys think that may be what it needs.

thanks in advance.

Hmmmmmm, I’d be suspicious of a bad transducer. Could be the location since it’s so far to the right. Have you tried with your motor tilted up or is it always tucked in when idling?

I tilted it up...in the later pictures and it seems like I got more of the picture, but still dark. I will try to relocate it or lower it. This was my first pass with this transducer and I bought it used. Praying for the best smirk

I have one of those big fins on my motor...but with the jackplate and tilting the motor back, I just didnt think it was that.

I will say that when turning circlies, when I turned to the right, there was a certain position where it seemed to briefly consistently brighten up and then go away when I would straigten out.

I just had a thought. Try to flip the right/left option in the menu and see if the dark side now goes to the right. If it does, then that tells you that it’s the ducer itself.

Ha, such a simple idea...but good!

Not on the water now, will next time out.

Thanks

Might want to check and make sure transducer is level. Level hull pad first using trailer tongue jack, then check transducer. A small pocket level works great on both.

Be aware of boat weight. If fishing alone most of the time, you'll have more weight on the right side. From the pics, it looks like the ducer is spot on (horizontal) to the boat bottom. My ducer is tilted a little bit because I know the boat weight, with me, will be heavier on the right (port side). In the driveway, my ducer may look crooked (it does) but on the water it is parallel. This is what you want. Try what grout-scout said. If it does flip, then you just need to change the angle a 'little' bit til it is an equal pic on both sides.

so if this theory proves to be right...the left side (darker side) is tilted up too much and needs to be angled down more?

thanks
