Planning CO trip, need Flow advice

Planning CO trip, need Flow advice - 09/11/17 05:53 PM

Trying to plan a fly fishing trip for my brother and I on my birthday later this month, luckily he lives in Denver and we can get away to go do some fly fishing.

I was primarily looking at the Blue River north of Silverthorne to fish. But not being a seasoned Colorado fisherman, I have no idea what the release/flow will be like 9/28-10/2.

Anyone been to the area around that time of the year or know a resource to look up the flow of each river at certain times?

We are open to different areas had just been focusing on Blue river since it seemed like a good starting river.

Any advice is appreciated!

Thanks,
Scott

Awesome, was able to check out last few years flow, looks like below Dillon they keep it at 100 pretty standard, at the breck station only about 11-10.

Last year we went up near Winterpark and fished the Fraser without much luck a little later in the year.

The blue out of Silverthorne is some great water. There are also some good walk in areas between Kremmling and Parshall on the Colorado

the easy access to the blue is what was attracting me to want to try it out. It appears to have more access north of Silverthorne.

The Kremling area looks great to fish its only about 30 minutes farther too.

There is a good bit of access north of Silverthone for the Blue. Depending on the flows, Ten Mile Creek that comes down from Copper Mtn can be good too. Not usually any real big fish, but lots of numbers....

Any advice on other flies I could benefit from?

If you are going to fish the blue below Dillon, get some small opaque Mysis - 18's and 20's. Size 24 midges too in cream, black, and grey.

Thanks for the advice!

Ended up getting a trip scheduled with Breck outfitters for a full day float trip on the north Colorado. Pretty pumped about it.
