Daingerfield Pickerel in October

Daingerfield Pickerel in October - 10/07/16 07:37 PM

I know this topic has come up a few times on this forum, but not this exact question as near as I can tell.

Anyways... I'm camping out at Daingerfield SP next weekend. Is it too early for pickerel on the fly?
I've read a couple places that's its mostly a winter fishery, and it's been mostly warm lately.

I was planning to rent a canoe/boat and throw streamers (clousers, deceivers, seaducers) around the lily pads on my 5 wt. Any other suggestions? Topwater froggies?

Thanks

I have found that the most productive fly for pickeral is the bent back streamer because it will glide across the moss beds without gathering moss; the piks lay in that moss and attack any movement near them that imitates baitfish. Works on Dangerfield, Caddo, and Lake Hawkins-p-

I've caught them there this time of yr, you should have no problem. Should pick up a few bass too

Not my favorite fish to catch, but it is fun to sight fish them..
