What hook size do you prefer on your flies for bluegill fly fishing?

I personally prefer #6 hooks only to pre-cut the itty bittys. But I'll fish #10 or 12 flies, I just keep a little degorger tool on my lanyard. To me, it's a combo of what will they hit vs. what am I willing to deal with?

I'm not sure I answered the question but that's what came to mind.

I tie most of mine on 10's and 12's, for the most part.
I also try to keep a few smaller sizes in my box, too. That way I have something if all I'm finding are little ones.

Thanks. I'm looking to order some flies from breambugs.com and the flies I'm wanting come in 4,6,8 size hooks

I tie all my bluegill flies on size 8 or 10. Size 8 is a good choice.

I agree with J-moe, fished at Blue Gill Lakes Cabins this past weekend and was very surprised at the large sized hooks these small mouthed fish will take in and how deep they will swallow the hooks, however when fishing with flies it was easier to remove the hooks but with earthworm for bait the little fish would just inhale size six hooks. The bait fishing was done by my grandsons
All that being said I also like to fish the bigger sizes because it will cut out the smaller fish fishing with flies.
