Gruene to Seguin

Gruene to Seguin - 08/17/15 12:02 AM

It kinda had a ring to it.
My wife and I are looking for a place to get away for a long weekend. Looking for a cabin or hotel on the river or a creek. Preferably where I can wade fish and maybe do a float with the rest of the idiots! grin
I don't want to break the bank, so maybe less than 200 a night for 2 people, but I don't want to get too primitive. The wife unit likes her indoor plumbing.

I dug thru all of the previous posts like this, but most of what I saw was either up near Dallas, too expensive, or over around Boerne.

Any help would be appreciated.

Advice? Pick a different river. The Guadalupe below canyon is too high profile and high price to meet your requirements. I suggest the Frio, the Nieces or the Plano. You can find a few cabins for under $200 a night. I am not aware of any places like that below canyon, especially walking distance from the river.

LMAO. Don't you love it!
Ah. I see your point. I will expand this to include more of the hill country.
Thanks for the advise.

i stayed here earlier in the month. caught a couple fish right there by the cabin. it was mostly a family getaway trip and i didn't hav an opportunity to fish to much but the water looked good and i'm sure more fish would have been caught if i fished more.

The llano is beautiful.

Gruene to Seguin would be tough!
You would have to deal with water skiers and pleasure boats as well as several dams that would be pretty hard to portage if at all.
After Gruene you would have a small dam just a short ways down from Gruene but doable, then you would have lake Dunlap and a serious dam, and then lake McQueeney another dam, Lake Placid and another dam, and then Meadows at Seguin.
You might try the upper Guadalupe above Canyon Lake.

Jimbo. I was just looking for something in that area. I don't even want to imagine trying to do a float that far, lol. It would take someone made of a lot sterner stuff than I am. (Can you pack a king sized bed in a kayak?)

I think we have found something out on the Llano. I'll know for sure a little later this evening.

If you can find a take out on McQueeney it is one of the best bass lakes in the state because all the homeowners refused to let anyone on it's a public lake that our tax dollars go to stockfish but there's no real usable boat ramp for a big boat. There is one that would function well for kayaks though or a light johnboat with a small outboard. Have to give another +1 for the llano though. I grew up around Goldthwaite Texas and finished it a lot growing up it is a beautiful river.
