Brazos Below PK - 07/29/15 10:46 PM

Heading to the lake this weekend was wandering if anyone had been out lately. Don't know if I should put the boat in the water on the main lake or kayak the river. I heard behind the dam was good a month ago but haven't heard anything lately. Any reports would be appreciated!

I think all of the keeper sized sandies were pulled out but there are still some hard fighting undersized stripers in there. Water was still flowing good last weekend so unless it's slowed down be prepared to do some serious paddling in the fast water areas.

It put a few more good sandies in when they opene the gate two weeks ago. The under sized strippers pull just as good as a big sandbass. Also the smallmouth are realy taking hold in the river again after they restocked it from golden alge die offs. Hope the flows sty higher for a while to help the O2 content in the water. If you want to go have a fun day with numbers it's great. Take a three or four wt you will have a blast.

A stocking by TP&W-RH...thanks! I'm gonna give it a paddle and check it out and strip a clouser. I hope they are biting. FW if your gonna keep all the keeps you can at least invite me for the fish fry. I hope I get good dinner this weekend!

For bass fishing (smallies, spots and largemouth) the fishing is great. I caught 1 small striper bass fishing this past monday.

Herroutdoors what time of day were you there and what fly were you throwing? We have caught a ton of thoses little stripers and sandies at first and last light but almost all have been right at the top of fast flowing water in an eddy on the side. They seem to really congregate there early and late to feed. Every where else in the pools an stuff it been all bass goos and such.

I was using a popper and was above the bridge. The flow wasn't what it was a couple weeks ago and way less bites.

To many variables to know but I havnt had any of the sandbass or stripers come to the top. Plenty of small and largmouth as well as spots. All the striped fish have been on a clouser I did have a couple of times that the Sandbass and stripers were hitting on the surface but it was so fast at that time on the Clouser there was no sense in switching. I am curious to see if they open the gates again after the rain they got yesterday.
