Split Bamboo Fly Rod Tools

Split Bamboo Fly Rod Tools - 05/01/14 01:06 PM

I'm throwing this out there to see if there is any interest. I'm thinking about selling my planing forms, hand planes, string binder, and all miscellany needed to build split bamboo fly rods. My carpal tunnel flares up to the point where it's just more like work anymore.

I believe $1800.00 is a fair asking price for this package.

You'd be buying:
Two Preliminary Planing forms
Everett Garrison-style Planing forms, 6' in length
Five Stanley Planes
Two Lie-Nielsen Planes to include a 212 Scraper
Extra Plane Blades
Gauges and Calipers
A Garrison-style String Binder and a huge spool of cotton thread
Hundreds of vintage snake guides
Dozens of pairs of vintage Ferrules
Fifteen+ Struble Reel Seats of various materials
Various Silk Threads for wrapping guides
Six Culms of Bamboo (enough to build a dozen rods)
Strips of Bamboo ready to plane into three rods
=>>I have sold my fly rods for $800.00, which is below market value. Do the math and you'll see you can easily make your money back!!
A collection of Books on the craft to include a First Edition of Garrison & Carmichael

I'm not really interested in splitting this stuff up. Send me a PM & I will take some photos.

I live in Longview, TX. This would have to be a face-to-face transaction. Otherwise, shipping would be done by truck freight.

Dang JR, hagte to see you have to quit.
Folks, JR has built some MyteeFine cane poles. My son has one of them. If you are hankering to take up grass rod building this might be the time.

This offer is both tempting and scary. The last thing I need right now is another hobby....

Thanks, Robin, for the vote of confidence on what fine rods can be made with the tools I'm offering for sale. I wish I had kept up with names & addresses of people that had bought my fly rods. I sold some on eBay. I sold one while in Montana. I sold two to a young lady that I met at Beaver's Bend. She was a Rainey's Flies rep.

Rex, if it sweetens the deal any, some of the cane I have already split is for twin 6-foot, one-piece rods that I planned to build in three weight and four weight. I ordered the culms cut especially for the project. That cane was split in late 2006, so I know it's well-cured.

Another side note - If a person wanted to, as I did... You could use this as a small business and take product development and marketing trips to places like Colorado, Utah, Montana... and write the expenses off your taxes... Unless the current POTUS has closed those loopholes.

I'm also open to some trades. I would consider electronics with Side Imaging for my boat. I'm looking for a 24-volt, 80-pound thrust trolling motor for the same boat. I would consider trading for man-toys that go BANG. I would even consider partial trades for fishing equipment.

Glad you own that rod, JB. No one is more deserving.

I have a small collection of split cane rods. I'll never wear them out. I'm more interested in fishing than I am in building fly rods for sale, so it's time to pass the torch. Someone out there wants to build his/her own split bamboo fly rod. When they're ready, I'm ready.

Re: Split Bamboo Fly Rod Tools - 01/10/17 04:53 AM

I would like to see if anyone would like to start building split bamboo fly rods. I had this sold at one time, but the buyer vanished into thin air.

If someone is serious, I will sell the entire lot for $1200. Pick it up in Longview, TX.
