You guys are cold-blooded. I'm the last person in this forum who need that boat but gheesh, I want one bad!!!!! The water one can access with ease and total comfort is just amazing. It's so much cheaper than a skiff to boot! Imagine the envy of everyone here.

Re: The ULTIMATE Gheenoe Pic Thread - 02/01/10 02:27 AM
For the record, I didn't start this thread, but I do think that resurrecting my Gheenoe sales pitch from a couple of months ago would be appropriate. This was way back in November before Derik saw the light about the value of a Gheenoe vs a drift boat. Derik, no need to thank me for planting that seed. Please note that I have made the appropriate changes to better torture JackMack.
Why don't you have a seat in my office sales cubicle here. Now, Derek JohnnyMack, I know you're in the market for a small, maneuverable, shallow draft boat that can go anywhere and do anything. AmIright? I think you can agree with me that the Gheenoe has what it takes to get you on fish in the beautiful rivers of central Texas. I think you'll also agree that this little beauty will be equally at home in the flats off the coast chasing reds and specs.
Can't you just see yourself out there making those tight, wind-cutting loops? Dropping casts right on the nose of that new state record red? You see your fly line tighten with a sound like a cracking bullwhip as that huge fish streaks across the flats accompanied by the screaming protest of the drag. You're right there, Derek JimmyMark. The Gheenoe put you in the exact location, at the exact time to work your magic and bring that copper colored beauty to hand. You could quickly and mercifully kill this behemoth and claim that new all tackle state record that is so rightfully yours, but you won't. You'll ease him back into the water, pump life giving oxygen across his gills, and when he's ready, release him back to his habitat to get a little bigger and pass his superior genetics on to the next generation. As you blast back across the flats, the purr of that fuel-sipping engine is the soundtrack to the end credits of your perfect day of fishing.
Now who got you out there on the salt, Derek JerryMatt? What little workhorse did the job and just kept asking for more? The Gheenoe did. It took you out there and brought you back in comfort and style. When the day is done, all it will ask for is to go do it again.
Now, Derek JeremyMarv, I've got just one more question for you. What can I do to put you in this Gheenoe today?
You sit right there, look at this brochure, and decide what color you want. I'm going to go talk to my manager about getting you a very special deal. He owes me one just like you owe yourself this purpose-built fishing machine.
I'll be right back with the paperwork so you can get out on the water this afternoon and start living like you need to live.
Always
Be
Closing
Derik's JackMack's name misspelled on purpose in the above example to throw him off guard just enough to get the kill I mean new satisfied customer.

Re: The ULTIMATE Gheenoe Pic Thread - 02/01/10 02:56 AM
I can't help but note one (at first glance) seemingly small benefit to the Gheenoe, its light weight combined with a small trailer make it easy to pull with any vehicle, (even hybrids according to Gheenoe) so while our Bass Brethren have to purchase $40,000 trucks to pull their $ 50,000 boats, a man with a Gheenoe can easily use the family car to put some fine piscatorial fare on the table.

I may need help here
Or maybe I can convince her that we need both?

Of course you need both. You can't take me fishing on Texoma in a Gheenoe when the wind is blowing. You need both.
Next question.

I personally love the
diving poling platform on the back! I can tell ya a couple of those outboards did not have the 5hp look to them. The ones with the jack plates looked to be 25hp engines which should push that craft well over 35 mph

Re: The ULTIMATE Gheenoe Pic Thread - 02/01/10 05:49 PM
Well, if you can't handle the Gheenoe, you can always go with this
http://www.coleman.com/coleman/colemanco...0085&brand=It'll fit
IN your Mazda and will take a 3 hp motor. Won't look cool like you would in the Gheenoe, but it'll kick it with a 3 hp motor. I have an older model that you can practically waterski behind with an electric trolling motor pushing it. In 20 years of running through some pretty nasty areas I've only put one hole in it when my ex wife stepped in it too shallow over rocks. Only real draw back is it does get pushed around by the wind some. I only use it in pocket waters now since I have bigger boats for bigger waters.

Re: The ULTIMATE Gheenoe Pic Thread - 02/01/10 06:19 PM
Not sure if you're poking fun or serious, but a lot of fish have been caught from that boat (raft?). Mine doesn't have the wooden floor, so you can't stand in it, not sure if you can stand in the newer models. I've taken it down snagged filled creeks drift boat style, cruised the flats of lakes site fishing, and jsut general poking around small lakes and ponds. Even had the springer spaniel in it once (ok, in and out of it several times, you can't keep a springer out of the water). My son wasn't too happy when the aligators started cruising next to us once, but they left the boat alone.

You would be surprised at how narrow & unstable a 32" flat bottom is, I wouldnt even think about anything narrower than a 36 & a 40 is better. Those B&S air-cooled motors are really loud and not all that great of a motor. Get a Yamaha or Mercury and you'll be happier in the long run.

Re: The ULTIMATE Gheenoe Pic Thread - 02/01/10 08:00 PM
The reason for a gheenoe is that there is no perfect boat, there is no boat that does it all, but a Gheeenoe comes close, It is narrow but stable, a shallow draft suitable for rivers but big enough for lakes. Easy to pole for sight fishing & poking around in the shallow shorelines. Motorized for covering some pretty good distances in a minimum amount of time...all in all a very good platform for multi-species fly fishing in & around rivers, streams, lakes & reservoirs at a price that won't break the bank.

Re: The ULTIMATE Gheenoe Pic Thread - 02/01/10 08:50 PM
You could also consider the new Wilderness Systems Commander.
It has a motor mount on the back for a trolling motor and a "captain's chair" to sit higher for sight casting.
The manufacture doesnt recommend it, but it might take a 2hp as well.
Posted By: Salt396
Re: The ULTIMATE Gheenoe Pic Thread - 02/01/10 09:02 PM
The Commander is a freakin' sweet yak, I agree. I floated the Guad in one and have taken it back back in the marsh chasing reds... good boat for those that don't want a motorized craft but do want stability and relatively flyflingin friendly deck space. I have no problem standing and double hauling in the Commander.
P.S - Flysouth, how the HECK do you paddle with that scotty right there in your swing path? I would go insane.

It's got all the goodies already installed; Great running 15 HP Johnson, Doel Fin, Tiller Extension, Grab Bar, Manual Jack Plate, Tiny Tach, Bow Mount Trolling Motor Mount, rod holders (fly and conventional), push pole holders, etc.
Reason for selling, I've already got a Classic and I'm fix'in to order a LT like Cody's. So....I'm running out of space to park them! (LOL)

Man the only thing is don't be the guy in front while Mike puts the hammer down on the throttle, maybe I should say don't be the fat guy in the front, it gets a little moist when you're doing 30+ mph and the water is only 2 inches from your face !!
Very cool little boat, I'm sure the other models are cool too. Almost hard to pole cuz they're too easy, though, lots of crabbin but I gotta blame that on my normal "poling boat" weighing somewhere in the neighborhood of 1500 pounds
Posted By: Barry
Re: The ULTIMATE Gheenoe Pic Thread - 02/04/10 11:41 AM
Dave
LOL, yep these boats take a little getting used to, for poling because of how little they weigh. That Highsider with the motor and rigging probably weighs under 220 pounds. I guess that's the reason it paddles so well. It's as fast as my T-160 and a hell of a lot more stable when using it as a paddle boat.
As far as trading it for reels go, that probably won't happen. I've got at least 38-39 vintage fly reels and damn near that many rods. And that's not counting the modern reels and Graphite rods I've got put away in the shop. You might say that I'm tackle poor! (LOL)
Everybody else
I'll put a price on the boat and move it to the Classifieds as soon as I find out if the deal on new one I'm thinking about buying is going to go through.
To be continued!

One way tickets to Florida might be the way to go.
Now THERE is an adventure. Fly out there, negotiate the price of the trailer out of the deal, and have the seller drive you to the nearest river that runs into the Gulf of Mexico. You're then set up to fish your way back to Texas along the shore of the Gulf. An easy right turn on the Trinity, Brazos, or Colorado and you're home. There is a book and a video in that trip at the very least. If anyone does this trip, I'll be happy with 15% of the book and DVD gross.

Re: The ULTIMATE Gheenoe Pic Thread - 02/06/10 04:18 PM
Bonus: the boat is in Hobe Sound, FL, which is on the eastern side of the state, just east of Lake Okeechobee. Therefore, you could either find a way to cross peninsualar Florida and possibly the big lake, or just trace your way down through the keys and back up the western coast. How many different species could you catch on that one trip?

Hey Guys
OK, guys, I’ve decided to sell my Gheenoe Highsider to make room for the new LT.
Here’s the package;
1997 Olive Green Gheenoe Highsider with off-white interior. Boat is in very good shape.
1988 15 HP Johnson manual start outboard. Just had the carburetor rebuilt and motor checked out. Water pump impeller and gear lube replaced about a year ago.
Manual Jack-plate
Factory Grab Bar
Factory Bow mount Trolling motor bracket
Tiny-Tach mounted on grab bar dash
4 rod holders
Push pole holders
Excellent trailer
This little boat runs like a scalded Dog, burns very little fuel, and paddles as well as my Kayaks.
I’m looking to get $2650.00 for the package. If you’re interested shoot me an e-mail
evanslmtd@windstream.com or send me a PM.
