Wading for carp in south DFW metro - 11/04/17 08:04 PM

Any suggestions for locations to fly fish for carp in south Dallas. I just moved here from Colorado and can't seem to find a place to target carp from the shore. I have a kayak but do not know the lakes around here very well. I heard that Joe Pool can be good but I have not seen any there.

LLELA has a [censored] ton of buffalo you can catch. Pain in the rear to get on a fly rod, but when you do it's a lot of fun. And of course, if you find the right spot at the reserve, you can find carp as well. Make sure the water isn't too high before you go.

I'd be interested to know of carp/buffalo spots east of dallas if anyone has any suggestions? I'm close to Tawokoni. What is everybody throwing for carp flies around here? I've got some good patterns for east Idaho, but haven't given them a whirl out here yet.

My favorite fly pattern is the Carp Backstabber in a tan/rusty crawfish lookin’. Does the job well. Hybrid carp flies are good too.

Main stem is always so muddy, though. I've found it really hard to find clear water in DFW for sight fishing.

If you get the sun high and behind you,you can just look for mud blooms. On the right day they stand out well and they are not as spooky real problem is figuring out what direction they are feeding. There are days you cant see anything though I’ll admit. Brite side lots of access, and close for a short run.

I have a spot on Lavon for tailing carp. Most of the winter.

They run up creeks during the spring and are all over the place.

I have a video of a few dozen of them doing something that looked remarkably like eating dry flies -- clooping apparently its called -- up in Rowlett Creek from spring of last year. The one day I didn't bring fly gear.

Where is a good spot to access the Trinity south of Dallas away from downtown?
