Bull Reds On The Run In Sabine Pass - 11/01/16 05:24 PM

Saturday was a great day on the water! The boys have been wanting to go catch some "Big Fish" for some time now. Between fall baseball and work we just have not had the time. Last Saturday was FINALLY a free day, so we loaded up and headed to Sabine Pass. The day started off a little slow. We tried a few spots on the southern end of the lake for some trout, but all we could manage to find were under specs and lots of sand trout. We ended up keeping a few sand trout just in case we needed some cut bait. About 10:30 we headed south to the jetties. Seas were pretty rough and the surf was pumping some muddy water into the ship channel. We found some relatively clean water and anchored up. I put out a spread of live shrimp, live finger mullet, and cut sand trout. Almost immediately the rod with the cut bait went down. Five minutes later we had our first big red. That pattern held all day. 4" chunks of cut bait was what they wanted so that is what we fed them. We finally left with fish still biting about 4pm. At times during the day the sharks really wore us out. We managed to get a few sharks in the boat that bit the circle hook just right but they mostly just cut us off. All in all it was a really good day. If you want to get into some really good bull red action, now is the time!

All fish were released to fight another day.
