Fort Lauderdale Fishing with Topshotfishing and Capt. Zsak

Three generations of anglers, Grandfather Morrie Frydberg, and his two sons, Shawn and Bryant, along with theirs sons, Micah, age 7 and Lev, age 5, all from Canada, chartered the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea big game sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. As the Frydberg’s boarded the boat, I asked Micah and Lev what type of fish they wanted to catch and Micah’s response was, “bigger than the Bass I catch up in Canada”. This was the family’s first fishing expedition in Fort Lauderdale.

Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. We started off trolling with two #8 plainers, one with a 2 ½ blue reflector drone spoon and the other with a blue and white sea witch in front of a double hooked Bonito strip. For surface baits we had three Ballyhoos.

Our first fish was on one of the plainer rods. To make it easier for the young angler, Micah, we left the rod in the covering board, and he reeled in a nice size Kingfish. Next up was Lev, and he reeled in a Bonito. From there, the rest of the family took turns reeling in their fish. With five Barracudas, 10 Bonitos and two Kingfish, we tried our luck at Shark fishing, but after thirty-five minutes, there were no takers.

As it was time to head back to the dock, the anglers retired into the well appreciated a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar located at 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
