Fishing Fort Lauderdale with Topshotfishing and Capt. Zsak

Shelly and Johnny Miller along with their daughter and son from Texas chartered the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea big game sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Winds were out of the east at 10 mph with blue skies and temperatures in the mid 90’s.

Fifteen to twenty minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 150 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. We started off trolling the reefs with two plainers down using two deep baits, a seawitch and spoon and four surface baits mix of Ballyhoo and strip baits. The first two bites were on the deep line and the anglers caught King Mackerels. The next four fish we caught were Bonitos on the deep lines.

We trolled until Johnny asked to target larger game fish. So we got out the heavy tackle looking to go after sharks. I set up in 200 ft of water over a wreck and put out three Shark baits – one on the surface, midrange and bottom. We drifted to the north as Johnny waited patiently for his arrival, asking me what type of Shark we were going to catch.
After an hour we got a real nice bite on the bottom bait, the rod bent over and the fish was on. Johnny's 13 year old daughter was the angler. She did an excellent job fighting the Hammerhead Shark (estimated weight was 250 lbs.) – the fight took an hour and a half. Dave, our mate, wired the Shark to the side of the boat for picture taking and was released to fight again.

The family retired into the a/c salon with the TV on and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar located at 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
