This has been somewhat of a typical January here in Galveston except for some higher than normal tides we have had to deal with. January Flounder Gigging started off with a bang and we were filling limits very easily. These are fish being intercepted as they come back into the bays from their spawning grounds. Fish are holding to sand bottoms adjacent to deep water. Bait fish is the key. Find the bait (mullet, piggies, mudfish) and the flounder are not far behind. Typical for this time of year, we have to capitalize during windows of opportunity which usually take place after a front pushes thru and we have some clear, calm nights for flounder hunting.

Fishing has been good in the back lakes and bays for specks and reds. Live shrimp, finger mullet are the live baits of choice, while plastics are producing as well. We have spent most of our time in West Galveston Bay lately, and will begin fishing the Galveston Jetties as well this month. The sheepshead are already beginning to show up, and black drum are beginning their thing as well. Bull Reds are making their presence known too.

We are approaching a great time of year for Jetty Fishing. Some very good fishing for families and kids can be found along the rocks from February thru April for BaySnapper (Sheepshead), Giant Black Drum, Redfish, and Bull Reds. If last spring is any indication of what 2016 will bring..... some giant BaySnapper are destined for the box! This is also a great time of year to catch a trophy speckled trout as we are targeting the sheepshead. Once we fill the box with some tasty fish, then we can back off the jetties and fish for some Giant Tanks..... Big Drum! These fish range in size from 20 to 50 lbs. Great fun to catch and release, and there is always a extremely good possibility of a Bull Red and maybe a shark if water temps are high enough.

This is an exciting time of year for us, and as many families call Galveston, Texas their Spring Break Destination - we get the pleasure of bringing kids and families out and hooked up on some amazing fish!

Looking in to possibly booking a trip for me and my father for April 1st. Will you be having any Spring-break Specials coming up?
