Re: Cold weather gear - 11/27/15 03:26 PM

I dont do much fishing in the cold if I have a choice, I use under armor cold gear as a base, sweats or whatever you like for second layer, then Cabelas guide wear, if it is really cold then maybe another sweat shirt, if you get cold while wearing this then its just too cold to be fishing. Oh don't forget the insulated Muck boots and wool socks, then you are good to go.

My parents got me a gore tex insulated suit a few years ago and I can be going across the lake at 70 mph on a day like today and feel like I'm sitting on my couch in my living room. It's amazing!!!!

I find it almost funny the people who fish out in the winter elements daily all agree on Artic Armor.

100% agree on this and will add GET THE GLOVES ALSO. We fish all year every week all weather and the AA is great you do not need layers under it, had mine over 3 years and no regrets at all.

Yes, never wear cotton in rainy or cold conditions. Wool is the best base layer. It keeps the skin dry and offers all day warmth.

I've been using BPS 100 MPH gear for the past 4 years and don't have any complaints.

Re: Cold weather gear - 11/30/15 10:35 PM

For those of you with the Artic Armor, I have two questions:

Is it waterproof to the point it does not seep thru like in a heavy down pour?

What is the comfort range of it? I'm wondering if it would be too warm for a 50*F day.

Re: Cold weather gear - 12/01/15 07:26 PM

Regarding the Artic armor...how is the fit. I wear a 34 /34 pants size and their size chart for bibs didn't cover that. They do look like a great product.

Re: Cold weather gear - 12/01/15 10:10 PM

I found the 1mm layer Arctic Armor suit on their website (idigear.com) for $235. Anyone found a better deal than that?

Re: Cold weather gear - 12/01/15 10:14 PM

Call them they will walk you through the fitting, be sure to have leans brand and size and a cloth measure tape & pen and paper when you call, very nice and eager to help you, I got a different size goat and bibs, perfect fit. They will also ask you things like how much sitting will you do with it on? Climbing? Avg temp? great people.

Several years ago, Academy carried Polar Edge Ski Clothing.... In January and February each year, they would put them on sale.... I bought a 4 sets of Polar Edge ski pants (coveralls) and coats... they were light weight and not too bulky.. easy to get around in... I have been very happy with them... Long underwear, jeans and the Polar Edge gear seemed to work most days.... But, Academy no longer carries them...
