Look what they found cleaning the tubes at PK Lake - 09/27/15 08:36 PM

This photo was taken at Possum Kingdom Lake by a diver cleaning out the flow vents.

I guess you want me to believe the catfish is bigger than the diver? Ain't gonna happen.

When was this taken? The water sure looks clear for PK. That's a big ol' yeller, but the camera angle makes it look monsterous.

Where are the hand fishermen when you need one?

Had to be before the flood this spring. PK water hasn't been that clear since before the rain started then. Wonder if a feller left a 2 to 4 lb. channel cat hooked up, maybe this ole boy would come get a bite? Don't believe he is as big as he looks, but still a very big fish!

I believe it is pic from an aquarium at Texas Fisheries Center. The fish weighs about 120 lbs

I'm gonna agree with this. The tail sure does have that tapered look.

When I was a kid about 10 or 11 my caught 100# cat. It filled the back of a olds station wagon. Biggest cat I have ever seen. There has always been stories of big cats at the bottom of dams.

I think its a very old picture. Got it from a friends facebook page. No telling where it came from or where it was taken. She just said it was PK.

PK water is pretty clear by the dam. I was fishing by the ranch yesterday and could see big largemouth and gizard shad easily in 10 feet of water.

When I was a kid we lived in Mineral Wells from 60-63. my Dad would tell us about the divers who saw catfish big enough to eat a man at PK and refused to go back down. Guess they are still there.

Splash weighed 121.5 pounds when caught from Lake Texoma in January 2004. She lived in the dive tank at the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center until her death in December 2005.

laugh out loud PKfishin, uou really started a thread here. Catfish or no fish, I would never be diving around a dam, even if I did dive, which I don't at least not on purpose.

They should have photoshopped some air bubbles in the photo. Looks like a toy diver and a 6" catfish in an aquarium

I don't think it is altered, it just isn't from PK.

Where? I don't know, but it is one of those photo perspective things sort of the way they used to make King Kong look big in the 1930s version.

Here is a URL pointing to that catfish as far back as 2006 (see the date in the caption).

God, I am glad there are gullible folks; it makes for many chuckles and the world a whole lot more fun!

The first time I saw that picture it took ten minutes to download. I had the newest modem available and downloaded at a blistering 9600 bits/second.

4lb catfish close up looking at the camera and diver further away. Oh ya, that giant man eating catfish has been spotted by the bottom of the dam at Travis, Texoma, Canyon, Grapevine.... :-)

That story has been told about every dam in Texas.

And Tennessee. My dad told me that story when I was a kid. I'm over 70 now and have heard it pretty much all my life.

I always imagined huge catfish sitting on the bottom of pk in 90' of water, that is until I learned about thermocline, I guess maybe during the winter months but I have dove to 90' in PK and I can't imagine much of anything wanting to live down there

Tubes? From the generators they no longer use? Cleaning?...... roflmao

If you take this pic into photoshop and blow it up to a pixel level you will note a strange discoloration surrounding the fish. faint, but there. I think it's been shopped.

Re: Look what they found cleaning the tubes at PK Lake - 10/12/15 01:39 PM

As has been said, this story has been told about every major lake within a 500 mile radius of DFW. And probably more than that. I grew up in OK and I know I've heard it about Tenkiller, Eufala, Broken Bow, Keystone, Murray and many more. Catfish the size of a man?? The size of a VW?? Here's what I know. I was an avid SCUBA diver for many, many years. I've logged 100s of dives in Lake Tenkiller which reaches depths of over 200 feet. And I have seen some HUGE flathead catfish diving in areas near the dam. But never have I seen one as big as a man. I have seen catfish that were between 4 and 5 feet long that would easily be new word records. But they don't have the mass to be considered the size of a man. Maybe a young teenager.

And if you look even closer you can see bigfoot in the background riding a black panther

I remember hearing this story the first time when I was a teen in the 1970s but about Beaver Lake in Arkansas and dams on the Akansas River.

Exactly, and look at the tail too. The European Wels catfish actually does reach those mythical sizes in that old story though.

Why do you all not believe this? In the haze in the background I can just make out the shapes of the many bulldozers that were abandoned by the operators at the last minute when the lake filled.
